Looks like Apprentice Harper and the group over at GIThub are in the final stages of getting this converted to P3. This person grabbed up the code and zipped it as a plugin and it worked on his Linux Mint 20 OS machine with a test book. And this person confirmed it works with his Windows 10 setup. Not officially released or in beta but this holds hope that it will be released shortly.

My set up is Linux Mint 20 PC running calibre with imported keys and a Windows 10 VM with ADE2.01 and Kindle for PC 1.23. ADE My Digital Editions folder has been sim-linked to a shared folder on the linux side, while Kindle has been set to download to a shared My Kindle Content folder. To download ebooks I just open the VM open Kindle or ADE download my ebooks then shut download the VM and then use drag and drop to calibre--works and no fooling around with wine. Edit: Just tried with a Nook book did not work. bernie Last edited by gbm; 09-29-2020 at 10:05 AM. Reason: more tests |

You can grab the latest build from here. This d/l will not work as a plugin, but if you zip up the contents inside the DeDRM_plugin folder you can add the resultant zip file as a plugin and test it. If you want to comment on the development it might be best to do it on Github. This thread is currently active on the topic. As I stated it is not even in beta yet, but it shows promise. If being able to consistently, reliably remove the DRM from their purchases with a 3rd-party calibre plugin is important to most of those "most people here," then perhaps that should change?
Not a condemnation, but rather a recommendation. |

The easiest way would be to never touch anything that isn't broke. I am happy with my version of calibre and the plugin. To keep things properly working, I don't update either.

But the Calibre update was all about fixing something that is at the very least about to be "broke", no? Migrating from Python 2 to 3 now seems like a good idea, rather than waiting for the obsolescence to set in.

I prefer the portable versions since it's an easy restore in case an update messes it up (whether calibre itself or a plugin). |

Reminds me of a manager at work; he wouldn't let his staff upgrade the software on his servers until they were at least 2 or 3 versions behind the release version.

I had a manager who didn't update until security basically forced him to upgrade. Ended up with an orphaned framework which meant that we had to scramble to re-write the software under a very tight security dictated timeline.
