And you dismiss when I said I think he's buying these from Amazon from the amount of Kindles that he's selling. You just keep saying it is STOLEN. We'll just have to agree to disagree. I say they are not stolen but Amazon has sold them to a 3rd party seller since they are operating Kindles without a serial number. Amazon is making money (still) The 3rd party seller is making money.

It's lighter less bulk. Faster and has the dictionary pop up redesign that the K3 doesn't have. I have a K3 and only use it when I go to the in laws due to the really good case Amazon made for it.

I find the story a tad weird. Amazon is still selling the PW1, so why would they go through an ebay seller to get rid of their stock when they just need to push them to their european subsidiaries ?

In Spain, for instance, you can order either the PW1 or the PW2 for the time being, so Amazon can very well sell both at the same time, and is still selling the PW1. And they also offer the PW1 reconditioned.

I agree that a difference of 10 € is not exactly a very tempting offer, but believe it or not, the PW1 are still selling for that price.

Amazon wouldn't go through eBay. eBay is Amazon nemesis. Amazon also wouldn't sell blacklisted Kindles to anyone. It just doesn't work that way. More than likely a stolen shipment from a Truck or store or something like that fell into someone hands and the seller bought it from them.

I ordered the new paperwhite to see if there was any improvement in the screen, and it came yesterday. I didn't really have any expectation of keeping it and some may remember I had what seemed like an endless number of replacements before I got a first gen PW I felt I could live with. I am really impressed; the screen seems really even. I can see faint cones of light at the bottom, and this is the one area where my current kindle is really excellent as it is virtually impossible to see them. The new PW is noticeably faster too (perhaps especially so because I only have one book on it at present?).

I like some of the new software features; I suppose it remains to be seen if the PW1 gets 5.4.

Will see if my OH likes the old one - he's got a KK and isn't the slave to technology that I am - and if not, it will go on ebay.

Wouldn't it make more sense that they will have some kind of system to wipe them, reinstall software are give them a new serial number, then sell them as refurbished Kindles.

However, if you are happy to buy a grey market product, that's your choice. I am sure Amazon would be quite interested to hear about someone on ebay selling Kindle's that couldn't be registered.... and I'm 100% certain they wouldn't class that person as a reputable seller, immaterial of how long they'd be selling on ebay.

This is one of the reasons I'm wary about upgrading to the Paperwhite. I love the very black text on my K3.

Sorry I was specifically referring to the screen quality. I don't use the dictionary and I prefer the larger buttons on the KK. It just wasn't worth keeping along with my KK, especially as my KK is 3G.

Guys I have just received my new Paperwhite and I love it, but I notice some shades on the bottom, i thought that Amazon has solved this problem, is my kindle defected or all of them have some shades..?
I mean shades are not annoyingly dark, but the screen is not completely white..

It is likely the eBay seller got his inventory LEGALLY as a wholesale buyer from Amazon just like Department Stores get it. Also, many times employees of Amazon could get special deals on buying large lots and then resell them on eBay. Employees of other companies do the same.

If someone purchased a stolen Kindle on eBay, it could never be registered since Amazon places every stolen unit on a black list. Thus, those units would be returned to the seller and get a refund from PayPal.

The Paperwhite 2012 has those shades on the bottom as shadows from the 4 light sources. The 2013 model should not have them. Which model did you buy? Even on the 2012 model they are very faint and do not distract from reading.

If you had read what allowingto wrote, you would have noted that the PW1 purchased was advertised and sold as not registerable. I doubt allowingto is going to return it for a refund....

You see those inflated prices on Amazon every once in a while for various items. On Amazon I think the sellers are hoping to catch people off guard with the 1-click buy button. Amazon seems to have cracked down on those sellers though.
