Not being a CC user, I would put it at the front of of the file name as defined in my Save As template. Then ES File Manager could sort on it, probably need leading zeroes i.e. 005173 for a short story - that should be doable via formatting.

The problem with putting word count into Tags is that you'll end up with a very long list in the Tag Editor and Manage Tags etc. And the numbers would be at the top of the lists, which probably means you'd want to prefix the numbers with something like 'Ω' to force them to the bottom of the list.

Thank you for this advice. I don't use CC, mainly because I just got it and haven't tested it out yet. I like having multiple options.

Just so you know why I don't use CC. I don't keep many books on my tablet, a few reference texts and a handful of 'currently reading' books, without any covers. So CC would be overkill for me.

@taratears: Another way to do it is via metadata plugboard. These modify the metadata in the book when it is being sent to a device. I know someone adds the word or page count to the end of the title. But, it can be added to the tags instead if that suits your device/app.

I just got a new computer (Windows 10) and got my Calibre library set up in it. Now when I run Count Pages, it gives me the word count instead of the page count. I have to run it a second time to get the page count. Did I miss a setting somewhere? Or is this a new feature I missed because I hadn't updated the plugin in awhile?

If you had copied the Library folder (and configuration folder) over, your settings should have been preserved. (or used the Export/Import tool on the Library Icon to make a 'proper' backup)

I believe Count Pages stores setting in each Library as it is dependent on custom columns.
If you did something else, please tell us, so we can advise

I had a very old computer, so the Export/Import tool didn't work for me. I copied the Calibre library folder over and properly configured the path to it, but I think there was an issue with the metadata.db file because I wound up having to run Restore Database before any of my books would show up.

Did you start that with a Metadata_db_prefs_backup.JSON in place? (that contained a record of the structure: custom field names and types

Check that you customized the Plugin (assigned field names) to match the fields you want to use. And make sure those fields are of the correct type
Pages or Words are type Integer

You just exceeded my skill level. I followed these instructions exactly if that helps.

Under my custom column, the lookup name is set to #page_count and the type is set to integers.

Did you also set as shown the first 2 pictures in the First post of this thread?
Did you set to Calculate or just Download like metadata?

I think I found the problem. I'd accidentally set Word Count Options to #page_count too, instead of leaving it blank. I just downloaded a book and ran Count Pages, and it came up with the page count right away, instead of the word count. Thanks!

Hi guys. I cannot for the life of me get this plugin to work on my Kindle Paperwhite! I believe I have things configured as per post #1. I've tried reconverting my books to both AZW3 and MOBI, then sent the books to my device via Calibre USB. I really don't know what I'm doing wrong but here are my config screens:
