??? What is the point of this kettle then? I mean what is the difference between using this kettle it will boil up water, let it cool down to pre-set temp., and keep it like that for only 30 minutes vs. standard kettle that will boil up water, pour the necessary amount into a water jug put in a thermometer, the water cools down within 1-3 minutes to the needed temp.
Astra, it doesn'tboil the water and then let it cool down. As soon as the water reaches the designated temperature, the heating element shuts off. When the water temp drops below the designated temp, the heating element comes on to bring it back to the correct temp.

It has a 30-minute time limit -- and I'm guessing at this reasoning -- to prevent boil off and stop it from being a fire hazard. But the time limit really isn't much of a problem. I fill a carafe twice within that time period, which pretty much uses 75% or more of the water, and when I want more water an hour later, I simply add more water and turn it back on; within a minute or so, the water is reheated.

I like it because I don't have to wait for the water to cool. When it reaches the designated temp it bells to let me know and I can immediately pour the water. It means I get my tea that much faster.

I also like it because my wife and I drink different types of tea that require different temperature water. Usually hers requires hotter water, so I get my 3-4 cup carafe filled first then put the kettle back on to raise the water temp for her tea.

I thought you lived in the UK. Is UK tap water unfit for consumption in the absence of boiling first? There are places in the U.S., especially in households that rely on private wells, where boiling first would be a good idea, but most of us get water through a municipal water supply that is pretreated before it comes to the home. I have never gotten ill from drinking unboiled tap water in the U.S. I think if I were so concerned about the water quality, I would buy pretreated bottled water or install a purification system in my home, but there has never been a need to do so.

Love the diet Dr. Pepper Cherry. I have a glass every night with my dinner. I even take a chilled can with me when I go out to restaurants that only serve diet Pepsi -- which I can't stand -- as the diet soda. I can't drink regular (i.e., non-diet) soda because of the sugar content, so it is diet Dr. Pepper (#1) or diet Coke (#2) or water (#3) for me.

I also carry my own tea bags to restaurants. Few restaurants offer good quality teas and usually the choice is from among herbals, which I don't like. People look at me wierdly when I pull out my own tea and also a timer.

Yes, in the UK.
I realise it might be just a silly prejudice or superstition however, I strongly believe that the water must be boiled.
