Woah, the DO_FACTORY_RESTORE worked!!! My kindle is working again!!!

It's downgraded. I don't know if the jailbreak is working after the factory reset. I connected and registered my devide, but i'm afraid to let the Wi-Fi active, lest it should happen again next time it tries to upgrade the firmware...

Cinisajoy, i got the instructions right here in this thread. I checked the model that corresponded to my kindle, and it was PW 2, so I paid close attention to the part that said ** The PW-2 is a special case at this point in the directions **

First 6 of your serial number.

Didn't i put it? I thought that was it.
I put the complete serial number, as described in the "repair needed" notification. I don't know what's wrong with putting it whole, but i thought my Kindle was dead and i would need to learn other ways to play with it, so...

I mean, that if the DO_FACTORY_RESTORE didn't work, then other methods were hopeless for a n00b such as yours truly.

What should i do next, with my now-working Kindle?
Should I let it do the automatic firmware upgrade or not?

I didn't realize that bottom number was the serial number.
Now please go edit that post to show only the first six digits.
Never put the full serial number in a forum.
That is a good way to get your kindle blacklisted.

Complete all steps in the first post of this thread, **ALL** (other than the two you where told to skip - start at the step you where told to continue at in that same comment).

Like this for PW-2:
Step 4 - follow other post, then skip the following two steps:
Step 5 - skipped, see step #4
Step 6 - skipped, see step #4
Step 7 - next one a PW-2 owner should follow (upgrade directions)
Step 8 - the one following Step 7 that a PW-2 owner should follow (add-in package installation requirements)

(Sorry, but I thought it was obvious that if I meant "skip 4" I would not have written "skip 2".)

Hello again, and thanks for your patience.

I had completed all steps except for the firmware upgrade, which is (apparently) what got my Kindle to stop working.

It's version 5.6.1.0.6 now.

Step #3 is downloading and validating the file factory_PW2_5.4.3.2_initial
which i did, and it had worked (i don't know why it's 5.6.1.0.6 now). I just found a "partial download" in the root directory. I deleted it.

So i guess i should downgrade it again. Doing that right now (fingers crossed).

Good rule of thumb, never put full serial numbers of anything on the internet unless registering the product at the manufacturer website. Even if you think the anything is a brick.

So, I did the downgrade again (there was a partial OTA, apparently), and the jailbreak, successfully. I'm now updating the firmware to 5.8.2 manually. Aaaaaand, success.

Now I'll go and try to understand step 8. Thank you all.

The way you wrote the sentence made it seem as if you had not rebooted the Kindle after placing the special filename at the root of visible USB storage.

I meant that if it did not work with a reboot while that special name was present, then we needed more information than you first provided.

It was late at night and I did not think asking a long list of questions at that point would help if all you had to do was press and hold the power button (to complete what you had started).

Actually, it was more moronic than that. The file i copied was named DO_FACTORY_RESET instead of DO_FACTORY_RESTORE (I think it was already wrong from where i copied it). When i corrected it i didn't even need to hold the button, as it was doing soft resets all the time.

I installed (unzipped on root) the first one on this image, but then i saw that there was other stuff, and two versions...

Two.

The link you included has had its attachment updated, it is the same one as in the Snapshot's thread.
That is KUAL menu system itself.
For a PW-2, you can use either the document or the booklet, your choice.
If using the document one (I will repeat part of the directions here):

1. Open the archive attached to that post -
2. Move the document KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw2 to /documents on the Kindle -
   (It will appear as a document on the Kindle's main screen like other documents.)

The second one (the one you have highlighted) is a KUAL extension.
With only rare exceptions, you only have to un-archive the package to the top of visible USB storage.

The first post of each of those have extensive directions.

I have a clean kindle pw2 with 5.8.2.1 an I would like to jb it.

- Ill download the original fm, Ill put in in my kindle and Ill up... I mean downgrade it
- My Pw2 is a special case so Ill download jb 1.1.14N from Niluje page and jailbreak
- at this time I can jump point 5 and 6 right?
- I update my kindle

Am I ok with these steps? thank you for helping me
