It's 3 minutes, 14 seconds long.
It's mainly soft violin music, with a little soft piano music thrown in. I hope that I didn't get too technical there. ![]() |

Even though this (posting stuff) is a volunteer job, I feel that I should apologize for being so late in the day posting the day's freebie from YourClassical. I got so involved in trying to figure out the AlexanderStreet/OpenMusicLibrary thing last night and today that, to be honest, I forgot about this one. Hopefully, anyone who would have wanted it will see it and be able to get it before the promotion expires. I think that the YourClassical freebies always expire at 2 a.m. Eastern Time on what is technically the next day, so you've still got almost 9 hours left to download this one.
Anyway, today's freebie comes from a Naxos album of Edward Elgar's compositions, Elgar: The Wand of Youth - Nursery Suite. The particular piece from the album that you can get free is The Wand of Youth Suite No. 1: Slumber Scene. The album is performed by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. James Judd is the conductor. Wanna know more, in the way of general and miscellaneous information, about the entire album? Well, Naxos has a dedicated webpage for that, and it is here. There is a separate Naxos webpage dedicated to reviews of the album, of which there are quite a few this time. You can find it here. But, I know that everyone is clamoring to know my expert take on the piece. ![]() If you wish to download the 4 minute, 11 second free piece, the thing to do is to navigate to this webpage. Locate the "Direct MP3 download link" and click on it. Happy listening! See you tomorrow, unless I forget. ![]() Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 11-15-2016 at 05:50 PM. |

I've gotten much better, since I first started posting on MobileRead, about checking to make sure that I don't have dead links. I may miss one every now and then, but nearly 100% of the time when I finish a post, every link will go to an active webpage. What I still need to work on is making sure that the link is to the webpage that I meant for it to go to! I still fail to do that. |

I probably shouldn't even mention this, but there may be a third free piece that I will be able to coax out of the YourClassical website today. I won't be able to work on it until late in the day today, however. Be sure to check this thread tonight to see if another free YourClassical piece is posted! Well, I was right about one thing--I shouldn't have even mentioned it. ha Turns out that that there is an album that YourClassical is giving away, all right. But they're giving away just one copy of the album, it seems, and you've got to enter for a chance to win it. I doubt that anyone would be interested in a drawing for an album (your chances of winning it are probably much less than you being killed by being struck by lightning), but if you do PM me. It's not classical music, anyway, it's Celtic music. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 11-16-2016 at 06:06 PM. |

I let my subscription lapse last July. I used it (mostly the 2-day free shipping) like crazy during the time that I had it. I feel like it was a good deal while I had it. I didn't renew. For one thing, having Prime caused me to overspend, I think. I bought stuff which was nice to have, might be helpful one day, etc., etc., but weren't things that I couldn't do without. I was spending at an unsustainable rate (Incidentally, I read--I think that maybe even Amazon was the one who acknowledged this, without putting a dollar figure on it--that people who had Prime do spend more than those without it). I find now, that I can't really come up with enough stuff at Amazon that I need to reach their minimum for free shipping. Most of what I buy and have shipped to the house now are items from Walmart, in part to help keep me from being in their stores as much as possible. I found Amazon's grocery stuff too much of a pain in order to buy from that department of their's much. I hate Walmart, but I have to admit that they, more likely than anyone else, have the product that I want, in the size or quantity that I want, at the price that I want. And, it's usually not difficult to find $50 (minimum for free shipping) worth of stuff every couple of weeks that I need. Some of you really go for the media that you get with Amazon Prime. I watched a few documentaries. To me, for the most part, they were meh, and there are plenty of sources around the web which are free; on top of that, I have bought a lot of documentaries on DVD's that I have yet to watch. I use walmart a lot as well. Often they are cheaper and I can return items easily. I bought my last two mattresses there (although we bought the latex toppers from sleeponlatex because they ROCK). Cat food, t-shirts, all kinds of stuff.

UPDATE: The second link has been corrected. Thanks to gabby98 for pointing out the mistake.
After receiving two free daily downloads from YourClassical yesterday, I had to wonder if they would skip one day, such as today, to make up for it. Well, I was almost right. For the life of me, I can't find my original post of the two downloads, but here's what I think happened. YourClassical accidentally posted both Wednesday's and Thursday's posts yesterday, Wednesday. I think that both of them are posted today, too, only they just reversed the order of the two. The upshot is, we don't get a designated freebie from them today. ![]() I know that you've come to expect one every weekday, so what I've done is to Google YourClassical's freebie from a year ago (actually Nov. 18, 2015), which was before I started posting their freebies. I found it in YourClassical's archives, and am posting it below. The album's published by a company called Ondine. The album is Karita Mattila - Wild Rose. The album has pieces from a selection of different classical composers of the past. The particular free piece from the album is Gretchen am Spinnrade, by composer Franz Schubert. As the title of the album suggests, soprano Karita Mattila is the singer. On this piece, at least, Ilmo Ranta performs on the piano. Find out miscellaneous and general information about the album from Naxos' webpage here. There does not appear to be a dedicated webpage for reviews. Stream and/or download this 3 minute, 47 second piece from this YourClassical webpage. The streaming bar is obvious. To download the piece, however, click on "Direct MP3 download link," and the piece will automatically download to your computer's drive of choice, smartphone memory, or whatever. I'll post YourClassical's freebie for Friday at some point after they post it on their website. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 11-17-2016 at 04:33 PM. |
