Preorder for 26 Nov. 2015.
Graveyard of Dreams by H. Beam Piper Conn, the son of a melon planter on the planet Poictesme, returns home after five years on Earth, studying. And spying. The planet had been used as a military staging point during the last interstellar war between the Federation and the System States Alliance, and somewhere among the leftover war debris on the planet is rumored to be the supercomputer that won the war. Many believe that this supercomputer can provide the answers to lift Poictesme out of economic stagnation and make it a prosperous place again. Conn has been gathering information just for this purpose - the search is on... Lone Star Planet by H. Beam Piper and John Joseph McGuire New Texas: its citizens figure that name about says it all. The Solar League ambassador to the Lone Star Planet has the unenviable task of convincing New Texans that a s'Srauff attack is imminent, and dangerous. Unfortunately it's common knowledge that the s'Srauff are evolved from canine ancestors - and not a Texan alive is about to be scared of a talking dog! But unless he can get them to act, and fast, there won't be a Texan alive, scared or otherwise! Gateway freebies http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?url=searc...lisher=Gateway |

Some apparently-couponable SF/F bargains for the UK for those doing last-minute shopping with the Kobo UK 50% off coupon, UK50SALE, which is supposed to be good through the end of November 2nd, UK time:
5 novels by Tim Powers are priced at £2.63 each from Corvus books (not couponable in North America, where they're out from HarperCollins for more than $11 CAD each): Three Days to Never, The Stress of Her Regard, Declare, On Stranger Tides, and Hide Me Among the Graves. I really liked Declare when I read it years ago, and found Three Days to Never interesting but not nearly as compelling. 3 omnibuses from Mercedes Lackey in her Valdemar series, out from Titan (North American publisher is Penguin's DAW imprint which is non-couponable): The Heralds of Valdemar aka the "Arrows Trilogy" starring Talia, and The Mage Winds trilogy starring Elspeth for just £3.47 each, and the The Mage Storms trilogy which follows directly from Winds for £5.15. These are pretty good prices for 3-book omnibuses, and with the 50% off coupon, they become dirt cheap. Corvus also has a bunch of other low-priced couponable sf/f and mystery/thriller titles in the UK if you're interested and browse their imprint listing. Not to mention, Tor seems to be couponable in the UK (but often priced somewhat higher than the North American equivalent to begin with). Last edited by ATDrake; 11-02-2015 at 04:18 PM. Some more couponable UK deals while the 50% off coupon lasts:
Tanya Huff has a number of books out from Titan priced at £3.47 or less, including the complete Valor series of her very fun military sci-fi series (and the latest in the spin-off for just £2.63), and her Enchantment Emporium urban fantasy series as well. In North America, these are out from DAW at $8-9 CAD each, non-couponable. Titan also has a whole bunch of titles in the same price range or less from Kim Newman, Cherie Priest, Philip José Farmer, anthologies edited by George R. R. Martin and Gardner Dozois, and many more if you browse their catalogue listings. Also, the latest new-release collection, just out this summer, by Garth Nix, including a new story in setting of his popular Abhorsen Trilogy, is just £4.07 (couponable from Bonnier): To Hold the Bridge: Tales from the Old Kingdom and Beyond (HarperCollins' North American version is $12 CAD, non-couponable). I have been pointed to a page of "first in series, free" (for one day or longer
http://pattyjansen.com/promo/ The links are all to Amazon.com but changing the URLs to Amazon.co.uk is no big deal. Note many are self-published but comment on USENET rec.arts.sf.written mentions some as good full timers. |

The new StoryBundle is The Historical Fiction Bundle, good for the next 22 days. There's also a Dark Justice Crime bundle, available for the next 15 days, and -- in honor of Halloween -- the Monsters bundle, available for only the next 1.5 days. StoryBundles usually include around 6 books for $10 or under, plus additional bonus books if you pay a little more. . |

The first book of Nathan Lowell's Trader's Tales from the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper series is free and the next two books are currently 99c at Amazon. Prices may be similar in various countries as I get similar prices in the German store.
These are self published although they were originally released as podiobooks and also published as ebooks by Ridan. I have enjoyed and bought most of the series. They are a bit different from the standard space opera and are a bit of a coming of age tale/ daily life story without large battles and enemies. Book 1 Quarter Share http://www.amazon.com/Quarter-Share-.../dp/B00AMO7VM4 Book 2 Half Share http://wwwamazon.com/gp/product/B00AO8QMIW Book 3 Full Share http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BJABX92 Book 1 synopsis The Golden Age of Sail has Returned -- in the Year 2352 When his mother dies in a flitter crash, eighteen-year-old Ishmael Horatio Wang must find a job with the planet company or leave the system--and NerisCo isn't hiring. With credits running low, and prospects limited, he has just one hope...to enlist for two years with a deep space commercial freighter. Ishmael, who only rarely visited the Neris Orbital, and has never been off-planet alone before, finds himself part of an eclectic crew sailing a deep space leviathan between the stars. Join the crew of the SC Lois McKendrick, a Manchester built clipper as she sets solar sails in search of profit for her company and a crew each entitled to a share equal to their rating. |

Open Road Daily deal available in the US $1.99
Silver Birch, Blood Moon Edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/silv...low/1100042997 https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/eb...rch-blood-moon http://www.amazon.com/Silver-Birch-B.../dp/B00MO0N25O Twenty-one darker, deeper, more adult takes on some of our favorite childhood fairy tales, from acclaimed contemporary fantasists Long ago, when we were children, our dreams were inspired by the fairy tales we heard at our mothers’ and grandmothers’ knees—stories of princesses and princes and witches and wondrous enchantments, by the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen, and from the pages of 1001 Arabian Nights. But, as World Fantasy Award–winning editors Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling remind us, these stories were often tamed and sanitized versions. The originals were frequently darker—and in Silver Birch, Blood Moon, they turn darker still. Twenty-one modern Grimms and Andersens—masterful storytellers including Neil Gaiman, Nancy Kress, and Tanith Lee—now reinvent beloved bedtime stories for our time. The Sea Witch gets her say, relating the story of “The Little Mermaid” from her own point of view. “Thumbelina” becomes a tale of creeping horror, while a delightfully naughty spin is put on “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” Author Caitlin R. Kiernan transports Snow White to a dark, gritty, industrial urban setting, and Patricia Briggs details “The Price” of dealing with a royal and unrepentantly evil Rumpelstiltskin. Rich, provocative, and unabashedly adult, each of these tales is a modern treasure, reminding us that wishes have consequences and not all genies have our best interests at heart.
