Second that!! I think that there are LOTS of members here who will agree on the excellent ergonomics or REB (RCA in my case). And I don't see how a design like that can be copyrighted - it's really nothing all that revolutionary and specific, just good common sense, anybody can have that (or claim to have that). The problem is that right now all of the ereader designers went different way (thin and light way). That makes me consider - all new eraeders are so much alike design wise - is there a copyright infringement somewhere there???

Dear Blunznwurscht:

Yes we are hoping and no I have no new news to speak of. This one is being made for us by Netronix and Netronix is like trying to get info from Sarah Palin on her wardrobe excesses.

We do KNOW that Netronix WILL show a 9.7 prototype at CES (January 8-11). It will be at our Astak booth. What we do not know is IF it will be fully functioning.

I will once more try to get a clear picture on it as you brought this up. I am gun-shy on this device as the info is so scarce. I will write now for a better answer.

I am so sorry for everybody waiting for the 9.7 inch. It is embarassing to just never know. AARGGHH!!

Please bear with me,

Robert B

I realize that screen dependability has been an issue due to cracking with the larger sizes. Has anybody tried the 10+inch (!!) Irex Iliad to see how they've dealt with the problem? It seems to be a perfect reader (even note taking!) except for the $700+ price tag.

This is still using a glass screen, which is apparently required for the Wacom touch capability. This gives iRex a jump on their competitors (who are all switching to plastic screens) but only time will tell how fragile the screen is. From the FAQ iRex Digital Reader 1000:
Quote:
Q: Has anything been done to the screen to address the durability issue? And is the display still utilizing a glass substrate material?
A: The display is still utilizing a glass substrate material like all E-Ink based display on the market today, however we have developed a new mechanical architecture that has been designed to improve the product rigidity and to reduce the chance on glass breakage.

You can find out all you want if you go to the forum specifically devoted to the Irex digital reader (It is not an iLiad). The screen is glass on that device.

Hi Robert B,

I just checked out the updated Mobiebook website. Very nice! And I did find your pictures and the description below them. By the way, the bottom middle picture - what are the two little silvery buttons?

Um, however, you might want to check over the current edition of a few things. It looks like a case of the right hand forgetting to tell the left hand that it made some last minute changes.

As part of the write up under the pictures it says:

Leather Carrying Case Included

Almost all other eBook Readers want you to buy your case. This can add $29-$49 to your bill. Often, the case is not terribly good and the unit can fall out of the case OR you have to remove the case to use the eBook Reader. The case we include is leather, holds the unit like a vice, the front cover is hinged and the EZ Reader can be used in the case easily, and the magnetic clasp is the ideal closure. We think this is the ideal way to protect your investment and it costs you no more.

But when you go to the "Special Promotion" page it offers two bundles:
Package contents:
‧ AC Power Adapter
‧ Stereo Earbuds
‧ Wrist Leash
‧ User’s Manual

Promotion Bundle includes:
‧ AC Power Adapter
‧ Stereo Earbuds
‧ Wrist Leash
‧ User’s Manual
‧ Carrying Leather Case X 1 with Magnetic Clasp
( Retail Price USD$19.99)
‧ Two(2) 1GB SD Card
(Retail price $12.84)
Pre-loaded with 100 Classics Titles
‧ SD Card Reader
(Retail Price USD $ 9.99)

So what happened to that included leather case? I am not seeing it with the first option? Actually I think it is really great that it is supposed to included so I hope that was not changed on you by the-powers-that-be.

This is almost enough to make me ask for one for Christmas despite my good intentions to wait for spring. The "almost" is because my kitchen has early 1970's backsplash tile & countertops that are older than me and the subfloor really needs replaced and new flooring put in. We just bought $270 in floor tile tonight (58 cents a square foot could not be passed up!). 7 years of living with it is finally too much. If I tell myself this enough times a day it helps the "I want an e-book reader now factor".

Good luck with the next round of website updates and I hope your visit with the retail chain reps in Chicago is/was fruitful.

Robert you may want to fix your DNS records so that mobiebook.com works too... many people don't bother typing the www. these days.

I guess that's market speak for saying they reinforced the display.

RE: Mobiebooks and getting to the cart

Robert,

I'm having a problem. I've logged in, then gone to the Buy EZ-READER page, then clicked on Add to Cart for the bundle at which point I get a message that I need to login first. So I log in again and click on my Cart, at which point I get a message that says I must "Please log in first to use the member functions." Rather a major bug I'm thinking. Especially as I want to actually *BUY* one of these today.

Dear Sara:

YOU ARE RIGHT and my webmaster is wrong!! I personally apologize for some creative writing by our webmaster! In trying to make the bundle look valuable (and it is a nice deal) he overstated. Let me make this clear, while I strangle the person responsible, the EZ Reader COMES INCLUDED with the same exact "Leather" Crush-Resistent Case and the Ear Buds... whether you buy the bundle or just buy the unit without the bundle!!

IT IS INCLUDED!!! FREE!!! While the $299 price is valid! In the future

We WILL change the website and apologize for the confusion! Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention!!

Profuse apologies.

Dear Derek:

The website is under construction and will be operational November 30. They ARE putting up an "Under Construction" banner tonight. The "cart" function does not yet work.

YOU CAN BUY today or next week at $299 if you email to: rubyl@teamresearchinc.com. ALL of Mobile Read Forum members can. Tell Ruby that Robert said to sell you an EZ Reader at $299 plus shipping!! She will handle everything for you until the website is fully operational!! Provide your phone number so she can take your credit card over the phone and ensure your privacy. Ruby is my assistant and she will do exactly what you need!!

I apologize for the problem. They are rushing the site to completion and never posted "under construction"!
