Thanks I need it! I'll be taking it back to the store this morning -- for repair I guess...I've already installed and registered all my software on that computer....otherwise I'd just exchange it..it's only 3 weeks old..maybe I will anyway...

What the hell???

I take a lot of precaution not to hurt myself while lifting. The back and neck are two areas that can be really get messed up with improper lifting techniques. I am 200% aware of my surroundings and definitely know what the hell I am doing. All this time I never hurt my back or neck once.

Two days ago I trip in my yard while digging and hurt my lower back (went away after after a day) and yesterday my oldest daughter hung to my neck in the lake and I pinched my nerve there.

It seems like the real world is out to get me.

It's the little things!

Just went out for my walk and heard all this water running across the street...turns out the pressure valve on the sprinklers was blown (it's an elderly lady --- no H_T much OLDER than ME) out and it was just gushing. I turned it off and rang the bell... there is family visiting so they are going to take care of it....likely have to be replaced from what I saw...

Crap! Where did you buy it? I had a problem with one I bought from Circuit City (before they went belly-up and now only exist as a webstore). Vista was new and I got the blue-screen of death, but the CC folks got it up and running for me and I haven't had any major problems since.

Do you suppose it's Windows 7 related?

MicroCenter....they have a "48 hour Guarantee" during the first year. The thing is though I'm still within the 30 return period so I presume the possibility exists that I could exchange it (again).

If it is the power supply or motherboard (i.e. not the hard drives) then all my programs/data should be intact. If it's the hard drive then I'll have to reinstall everything anyway.....might just as well start over with a new one.

p.s. not Windows 7 related. Something died -- the powersupply, the processor, the video, the harddrives?

Any of those could be causing the power supply to not start up...or it could be the power supply itself.....

They open in 1/2 hour .... I'll be there when the doors open!

When the power supply works, its cooling fan works and so do the idiot lights.
That could be it.

Power supply. I've had failures in other components, but the power supply still turned on and the fan started up.

Over the past 15 years or so, power supplies have been the biggest failure point here.

Does your power supply have an external on/off switch on the supply itself? I've had cases where the machine would not power on, and the fix, was flipping that switch to Off, unplugging the power cord and plugging back in, flipping the switch to On again, and doing a normal power on from the front panel.

Yeah, except if something else is wrong e.g. drawing too much current the power supply will shut down, generally it will at least give a flash of light/power/fan though -- this was totally dead.......


Just back from MicroCenter -- they replaced the power supply... I'm about to try reconnecting/reconfiguring everything and see what happens. If I'm not back in an hour send someone in for me.

Yep, checked all that....see above....hope it's fixed for good....and the dead power supply was not caused by some other reason....I did get them to extend the return/swap period for 60 days....
