well, if I look at the word, I'd say it was originally a holy day. And on holy days, people didn't have to work, as they were supposed to commemorates that saint the holy day was devoted to, on that day. So, a holiday is a day where you have to commemorate the fact that you don't have to get up early and get to work (or school). Personally, I think the best place to do that is in the Swiss mountains...
