Well...it wasn't necessarily SmartReferrer, though it well might have been. I was in a hurry to wreck some hardware and so did not want to make my post very long.

Assuming one does not have SmartReferrer or anything of that ilk, Firefox allows easy (sometimes even accidental) modification of behaviours on the about:config menu. Browse over there and take a look, for example, at

network.http.sendRefererHeader

Change that from whatever the default or current value is to 0. The same thing would happen when trying to download a referrer protected link as with SmartReferrer.

The add-on is just a bit spiffier because it lets one do fun things like send referrers from whatever.xxx or fbi.gov

I guess the moral is, "Don't assume that just because you live in a country where website security is generally accidental, everyone in the world configures their website incorrectly".

As long as the storage and transfer bandwidth charges are coming out of my pocket (all but one of them is), guess who gets to chose what degree requests are filtered?

There are at least two mirrors in China and at least one mirror in Russia that most likely do not filter requests the same that I do.
But then those sites are not condoned by Amazon, ours has always been condoned.
Geekmaster took care of that when the recovery images where first publicly posted.

I have a KV... Jailbroke and installed KUAL and MrPi without problem. Now, however, whenever I throw an update*.bin in the root of the device, it's gone when I eject the Kindle to install it. I've tried installing via the usual method and MrPi and the .bin is never detected, then upon reconnecting to PC, I find it's been deleted.

Any ideas? Thought it was perhaps related to me blocking OTAs, but removed update.bin.tmp.partial and it's still happening.

Edit: Ok, MrPi won't install packages in root (which Kindle evidently deletes if not a valid update on newer firmware versions). Installing fine from /mrpackages.

Yup, that should have been the only thing needed according to your description of the problem.
MrPI is required on 5.6, 5.7 and 5.8 customer firmwares.

Installing a package at the root of visible storage with UYK menu is an exception only in the jail break procedure using the factory firmwares.
Otherwise, that method is dead and gone. (which is one of the things that delayed our finding a working way to jb these newer devices).

This is the third time that I am trying to install the jailbreak on my kindle PW2 running 5.6.5 (90D4). I have very pleasant memories of the entire process being very smooth

however, i was lately trying duokon out and it sort of messed up my storage space and I 'reseted' the device.

the device refuses to be JBroken now. I have followed branch delay's process however this time it doesnt take me any forward after I enter ;fc-cache in the search bar. ( i have been getting an incessant 'jailbreak failed')

Any ideas/ suggestions to why that might be happening? I feel extremely crippled with the device not bein jailbroken. could it be because of the 'reset'?

You are in the wrong thread - this is not the 5.6.5 jailbreak.

Read and follow THESE directions very carefully, including all spoilers.
This one **should** be able to handle the clean-up after Duokan.

If carefully following this JB instructions does not do it for you, you will have to get assistance on the Duokan clean-up from the Duokan project itself (miui.com now).

Duokan is not one of this site's projects.
We didn't make it, we don't know how to completely get rid of it.

I was referring (no pun) to websites in the country in which I live.
We're hardly Switzerland.

I am sorry about that.

The day that was written was a very bad one for me and it slopped over into the things I wrote.

I was hoping for 100,000 views here in 10 weeks.
Almost made it, 100,000 views here in 11-1/2 weeks.

If you click the label of the views column you can sort this forum's index by views.
Then look to the left and see how long the threads have been posted.
This one seems to have a firm lock on page 2 of the index when sorted that way.

Help! I can't downgrade from FW 5.8.2.1, my Kindle is a PW2 -90D4.
I tried FW 5.6.11 and 5.6.5 and my Kindle settings always give me an error message; i also tried FW 5.4.3.2 no update option is available.
If i reset the device to factory setting, after the process it always stay on FW 5.8.2.1... :-/
Any utility/tool/method to get back to an older FW?
I'm noob to this forum, thank you in advance for any help.

Read the directions in the first post carefully, including spoilers.
Then read and follow the directions exactly!
For the PW-2, that includes following the special exception link.

It will work if you do that, unless Amazon built a special version of the PW-2 just for you.
OR
You had Duokan installed, not our project, not our code, nothing we can do to help you with getting rid of Duokan.
See: miui.com (the current home of the Duokan project) for help with that.

The putting DO_FACTORY_RESTORE filename on the root of visible USB storage is not magic, you have to reboot the Kindle while it is there.
Try that, and if it does not fix it, answer the above questions in your next post.

Did you read the post at the link you included?
Did you see the part where it is for the Kindle Touch? (KT, K5)

Maybe my problem was because before i always tried to reset selecting italian language, i don't know... anyway using FW in english it worked.
I also updated manually to FW 5.6.5 Hotfix, wonderful!
Still have to try to connect wifi for update to FW 5.8.2... i'm a a little afraid of Amazon shit!
