If you install the latest JB hotfix properly, the JB will survive this update.

My Oasis 3's JB survived every update through 5.14.3.2. Both KUAL, and KOReader still work.

BTW, how do you know that you lose JB? Did you reinstall Update_KUALBooklet_e3deabf_install.bin AFTER the update?

First you need to restart Kindle twice, then reinstall the hotfix and all the packages (KUAL, USBNetwork, etc, - all except KOReader).

I tried but it won't let me install the hotfix again (after updating the firmware). Just after I copy the hotfix .bin file I get a message in the kindle saying the update file is not valid and it just removes the file from the root directory.

The hotfix hasn't been rebuilt for the newest updates.

If it was up-to-date beforehand, that should be entirely unnecessary, though. Just reboot your device.

I had the latest hotfix installed on 5.13.4, then updated to the latest firmware and now I can't install the hotfix again and apparently lost the jb somehow.

Are you sure you lost the jailbreak or are you assuming this because KUAL is missing from the library? Try putting the file Update_KUALBooklet_*_install.bin (from KUAL coplate) in the mrpackages folder at the root of the storage and then entering ";log mrpi" in the search bar. If nothing happens, first extract the MRPI package to the root of the storage and then try to install KUAL again.

Wow, that actually worked. Thank you sooooo much.

Now the weird question: Why can't I install the JailBreak-1.16.N-FW-5.x-hotfix.bin after the firmware update? It worked fine before, after jailbreaking 5.13.4 and that's why assumed I lost it. I just tried again to be sure, here's the error it pops up as soon as I copy the hotfix.bin to the root directory (it also deletes the file):

"Update Error

An invalid update file has been loaded on your
device. Please go....
...
...
"

In any case I go into airplane mode now since without the hotfix I'm not safe anymore right? Thanks again for your help!

Look at the following thread. It says that reinstalling the hotfix is not necessary unless you want to make sure it is installed. I would like to know from nijule if there is any command to be run on Kindle that informs if the hotfix is installed and possibly the version.

Don't need to stay always on airplane mode, just install this extension and put it to rename OTA binaries.

@7hir7een: Totally not your fault, AFAIK, my package is *expected* to fail on some devices/FW combos.

I had forgotten to check if coplate's build included the latest few commits from November, my bad.

So I just backported those in coplate's tree, can you try the KUAL package attached to this post?

Hopefully, it'll work, but that entirely depends on whether coplate's GitHub tree matches his latest binaries from that thread .

Thanks for the confirmation about the messages, that was indeed those I was talking about .

EDIT: And in case there's some mysterious Java shenanigans going on, and that package *also* gets you a disappearing jar (I seriously don't get that bit, )., here's the jar itself to install as described in @coplate's thread (either via RUNME or via @knc1's SSH instructions).

EDIT²: Good news! The manual .jar method install should not be needed!

It appears to have worked as I have a new set of folders including a mkk one in the root directory. I also saw the install screen mentioning everything being jailbroken. I have ran around the thread trying to figure out what I am missing as I don't have a kual option in my library. I installed the latest hotfix. I cannot find any way to install the KUAL coplate or anything to do with mkk.

One little problem.

I update my KO3 32G(G0011L) from 5.14.3.2 to 5.15.1 after install the hotfix.

After I use ';log mrpi' or 'Helper(KUAL -> Helper -> Install MR Packages)' to install hotfix or KUAL or linkss or usbnet, the screen shows install succsesful and restarting UI then turn to blank and doesn't move on. I need to force a reboot by hold the power button 10 seconds.

Everything else goes on well, the jailbreak remains and all extensions are working properly as usual.

@zivilyz, me too. After reinstall the hotfix and KUAL, during UI restarting I got a completely white screen with no response. I needed to do a restart.

But after the reboot, everything seems it be okay.

Quick update that maaaaaybe fixes the GUI restart in MRPI on FW >= 5.15.x.

ProTip: MRPI doesn't kill USBNet, so you can monitor if shit goes wrong that way .

I just gave it a try with the updated packages, unfortunately the issue with the blank screen is not solved.

Early reports suggested it maybe behaved if you didn't touch the screen, for whatever reason.

Not something I can test in any case, so, just keep USBNet on and fix it from there .
