Yes. The minute hand goes around 24 times, in which time the hour hand has gone around twice, so the minute hand only laps the hour hand 22 times.

Correct. The confusion arises because a Mesgid is the falasha term for a synagogue, as opposed to Masjid, the Arabic term for a large community mosque.

I'm off to bed now, and the only question left is the anagram for STAGNATION. I'll leave it open, and will confirm the answer tomorrow, but as Paul has answered 3 correctly, it's back to the mouse!

I meant extra food (like the people you suggested) brought in from outside. I thought it was clear in context. Apologies if it was not.
