You can do it using the "dd" command. I don't know the exact parameters. I would expect it to be somewhere in Memory Upgrade Mod Guide.

Otherwise, there is probably an image writing tool out there. I haven't done this from Linux, so I haven't looked.

I'm facing exactly the same issue : 3 dots loading: 1 white 2 black.

It looks like with a good SD image it can solve the issue.
