I find using the in-browser (Chrome) Amazon Music player much better than the Windows app Amazon Music. Has anyone else played around with both? I find the desktop app extremely irritating. But in the browser app I can easily find what I want.

At least there is a choice, unlike with Spotify which doesn't seem to have a way to play via a browser, but only via a desktop app.

I bought one of the TP LINK HS100 plugs from that link today. Set up was quick and easy and Alexa now turns on and off the lights in my lounge that I had to lean over the back of a chair to get to till today

The only drawback is that the plugs only work on my wi-fi's 2.4ghz output, which means I've had to change the Echo to that as well from the 5ghz output (the plug and the Echo need to be on the same signal). It doesn't seem to have made any discernable difference though.

In any case, I am planning on getting a Dot in the near future and, when I do, I'll use the Dot (connected to the 2.4ghz signal) to control the lights and revert the Echo back to the 5ghz signal.

That's very surprising. Assuming your 2.4 and 5 APs are delivering connections to the same subnet, as mine are, and as would be expected in a home network, I can't imagine what difference that would make in an infrastructure mode setup. Ad hoc or wifi-direct, it might make sense, but not when both devices are connected through a router.

Well you know what, I just followed the instructions. I'll try reverting the Echo to the 5ghz signal and see if it still works. I'll report back tomorrow.

OK. Not tomorrow, but I was curious to see if it would work.

ApK is perfectly correct, I reverted my Echo back to the 5ghz signal and it still controls the plug perfectly.

Apologies for any misunderstanding caused and many thanks to ApK for putting me right and removing the one thing I saw as a drawback

I am amazed....I think it was this thread where someone was talking about Spotify connect? Well, I signed up for Premium, and I can hardly believe how easy it is to play Spotify songs on my Echo, from the computer or from my phone. My husband is gonna LOVE this. I will show him tomorrow. He likes to play songs from the computer. This is way better than trying to use the Alexa phone app, which he won't use. And I don't think one can use the computer interface to play songs over the Echo.

I think Spotify Premium is going to be the streaming subscription of choice, here!

I just got the Alexa update on my Fire tablet and have started fooling around with it. I forgot that Amazon was going to be doing this, so it's a fun surprise.
