BTW, I'm trying to answer without giving away too much of the content of the book, which is tricky!

Even though I felt that I've read better treatments of this material, "The Grand Design" is worth reading, given the press coverage it's generated. It's not overly long and will hopefully generate much discussion, so it's worth spending some time with.

I haven't gotten to that part of the book yet. I understood Time to be an artifact of the Big Bang making Time minus anything a nonsense question.

Better get back to my reading. Can't wait to see what they say.

Thanks for that Graham, I haven't yet decided to buy this book. I view Hawking's work with a certain skepticism. Just because Stephen says it, don’t make it so.

You might still consider the answer to T-1 to be a hand wave, so I wouldn't let that sway you...

To be fair to Hawking, he's not the only proponent of the theories expounded here.
