It's In!

A little tease...

It is extremely light ; I had to check the shipping box right away to make sure SOMETHING was in it...

Just seen the eReader logo, and the image seems to be a lot sharper.

Calibre won't detect it... yet

More pics coming tomorrow with comparison shots with the PRS-300!

The Sony Pocket 350 edition in silver and both the black and red Touch 650 editions are now listed in the Sony Rewards catalog, although they all say "Temporarily Out of Stock". As soon as I get 10,000 points it's going to go towards the 650 and hopefully they will be in stock then too! Only two thousand more points to go! (Of course, that's as long as they don't muck around with the rewards points redemption rules again!)

I loaded an ePub, and it's not fully justified. Thank God I got all my eBooks in LRF format! The screen is SHARP, already I find the PRS-300 screen very dull!

More to follow!

Congrats Squirsier! Can you tell us if the 350 still has the "library scan" issue?

Enjoy your new toy!

Well, it already crashed heh I switched the book list by book title and voilà, it hung. I don't know if it is due to the device trying to load all the book cover thumbnails but nothing will work, not even powering it off or connecting to my laptop or because I used the Sony Software to load the books (which also, like it often did with my PRS-300, hung in the middle of transfer, can't wait for Calibre to be updated, NEVER had any issues with it).

Reset button, here I go....

Alright, so a reset did the trick. There's now a progress bar when the device is being loaded! Switched the book view to List and now everything is smooth.

You can select the picture to appear during the device sleep mode, which is nice. Put a nice one of my girlfriend when we went to Las Vegas

You guys are gonna love the screen, especially if you have an older version to compare it to (again, pics coming tomorrow comparing the PRS-300 and 350, outside, supposed to be a sunny day).

I don't think you can change the font type, but what's that? Under the Zoom menu there's a Page Mode option with various choices (Original, Margin Cut, 2 Column Split, 3 Column Split and Full Page)... I wonder if this would affect ePub justification, need to try this out... Aaah nope, it's not. I'm guessing it's for those ePubs justified with huge margins, but I haven't tested this yet...

Any more questions, I'll be up for an hour or so again

ePubs must have justification specified in the CSS. Download and look at zelda's edition of Jerome K. Jerome's "Three Men in a Boat" to see if justification works.

Thanks for that!

Confirmed - full justification of ePub works. And so does Margin Cut for those eBooks with "big" margins, it effectively reduce them.

Edit : Also used Calibre to convert an ePub to ePub with fully justified text and this also worked! Altho the font sizes of LRF suits me better than ePub ; small is too small, medium is too big. I'll have to experiment with Calibre to find a good middle ground!

Angus & Robertsons in Launceston is not selling Sonys, though they do sell Kobos. I'll call Harvey Normans tomorrow, but I haven't seen any other reports that they will be selling them - though they do sell the IRiver.
