I was wondering how it handled other formats, I already saw the vid for the PDF but I'd like to see the non Azw formats for some books. I'm really interested in getting one, but I need to see how it would handle the books I've already bought from other sources.
Thanks. |

And it definitely works on Brazil (the roaming is done through TIM here, if you are interested). Of course, this is based on the Kindle I own (KDXG), but I have no reason to believe it would be different with the K3. I don't think it makes sense for Amazon (in terms of manufacturing costs) to keep two different hardware versions, one for the US and other for other countries, while it can easily cover all countries with a single model. The distinction on the pages was probably done to help international buyers who really can't use the US plug, but IMHO it confuses more than helps. Anyway, I'm just trying to help. Order the international version if you feel more comfortable with that, but the US version does work here. (*): For the non-brazilians: Anatel is a Brazilian government agency roughly equivalent to the US FCC. Last edited by wesleyer; 08-27-2010 at 08:55 AM. |

Um, several mostly I want to know how it does with calibre converted books. A lot of my books are non DRM'ed ePub but if the Kindle supports MOBI and HTML I can convert them. I just want to know if how well Kindle supports them.
I don't buy stuff that's DRM'ed so I won't be buying from Amazon so I need to know if it supports the other formats as well as it does it's native format. |

I have converted many books from epub and other formats to mobi using Calibre. It works very well with the Kindle.

ePub > mobi converts very well (not perfect). The only issues you might get are issues with complex formatting that doesn't always convert perfectly. If your books are fiction or similar (i.e. minimal formatting) your Calibre-converted epubs will work fine on the Kindle. |

Thanks, sounds good, and the only books I use are fiction, so it sounds perfect. I just might just get one.

And yes, it's actually a lot more bother to open up the back of the K1, get the card out, plug it into the computer, transfer files, plug it back into the K1, put the back cover back on, and put it back in its case, than it is just to plug in the USB cable. |

Got mine. First impression is that it is too tiny. Can't figure out how to hold it without putting hand on screen or keyboard. Not a deal breaker as I think I could adapt.
Unfortunately, the deal breaker is not being able to convert my DRM legally purchased epub's to mobi. I have too many that I have not read to have this Kindle sit on a shelf for 6 mos. while I read them all to clear out my Sony. So, I am gonna return the kindle and maybe after I have read all my books on my Sony that can't be moved over I will consider getting a k3 then. 2nd Kindle purchased, 2nd returned. While they fixed my number one complaint with the K2(background contrast), this other deal is a purchase-killer for moi. |

I thought their lack of support for ePub was pretty clear. Why did you buy it? Anyway, if they're ADE encrypted, it's pretty darned easy to decrypt them. Not necessarily legal, but easy.
