Went to have a nose at the free UK books ... and there's now the option to send it to my Kindle. I've just sent a load of books to it & set the e-mail address.

People have spoken to customer services who said, apparently, that the product page is right - so if it said Sep4 (or whatever), that's still their expectation.

One cunning thing that I've noticed is that they've already added the Kindle to my account now (I had ipod/PC already) and made it the default. I wonder what would happen if I deregister it (I don't dare).

Presumably I'll still need to link the Kindle to the account when it arrives (?)

You can unregister it if you want, but there's no point unless you giving it to someone as a gift or if you want to register it on a another account.
If you don't unregister it then it will arrive registered to the account you purchased it on (so no need to register it when it arrives then)...

I didn't really want to unregister it - I was just wondering whether that would mess up the process. It seems odd to be able to unregister a device that may not even exist yet, that was all.

If you unregistered it, you won't be able to reregister it until you actually receive it.

I think Mr Bezos should sent you a stock certificate with the latest Kindle! Hoo, boy! You've been Kindle-ing around, big time!

Like Ben Thornton says, I too mailed the customer services, and got am email saying
"blah blah .... before August 5th, so it will ship by September 4th....blah blah"

Yes, I did order on Aug 4th, which is before 5th Aug So, now we can assume that the second cutoff date was August 5th.

Yep, and like mentioned above I too don't dare deregister my kindle for the fear of being put at the very end of the line again.

Don't worry, unregistering your Kindle doesn't affect it's order/shipping in any ways

I ordered mine within 15 minutes of them putting the order loink on line that first night - beofre Bezos appeared on Charlie Rose. I haven't received any shipping email yet - surprised some of the rest of you who ordered after me have. Seems strange to me.,
