There is no battery drain issue anymore. PRS+ was "correctly" ported, it uses 300's binaries (instead of 505's) and they correctly handle power management.

2.0.2 has all features of 1.1.3 (most notable are: folder support, book history, key bindings), except dictionary which is not working at the moment, plus ability to mark books.

I am keen to try this enhancement. Before I jump in I want to get an exit strategy sorted.
I can't find details for reverting to the standard Sony setup if I do not like it. Can someone point me to the details

PRS+ flasher can flash any cramfs images, you just replace corresponding cramfs image and md5 file. (In case of 300 only Fsk partition is flashed, so to downgrade you'd replace Fsk.img & Fsk.img.md5 (located in PRSPInstaller\Sony Reader\software\firmware\300\) with your files, go to advanced menu and "force install prs+")

Backup all partitions before you install PRS+ (in PRS+ installer, Expert menu => Backup all partitions) as I only have European firmware dumps (1.0.00.24180). Files are saved in the root of internal memory.

But, honestly, PRS+ is much more mature than it looks and if you'd like features like folder support or book history I don't think you'd look back.

Thanks, easy to understand, but I think that there should be a simple option, of initially creating Fsk.img & Fsk.img.md5 files from what is already installed, back them up and then the option to locate and put them back.

This way a novice would be able to use and enjoy. Right now, I am not sufficiently confident to go down this route. Especially as I do not have the original Fsk.img & Fsk.img.md5 files to restore to if I am not happy.

Right now PRS+ on 300 is in "preview" state, which is actually not meant for novices.
You are more than welcome to come back later, when it will reach stable release state.

Hi! I am wondering if this behavior is just because the "preview" state, or actually I am doing something wrong:

I installed latest prs+ in my prs-300 … I downloaded the dictionary proposed in the Mobileread forum, placed i tinto the corresponding subdirectory and enabled the dictionary function, pointing it to this dictionary I downloaded.

Then I assigned the Center – movepad key for Holding -> Open the dictionary.

I am inside a book, I hold the center round button in the movepad for more than 3 seconds, and the “dictionary interfase” surfaces.

It just hangs there. It won´t do a thing. I tried each button, even de “menu button” which states Menu=Exit in the application interfase, to no avail: it seems to be crashed. Only way to get it OUT, is to reset the reader.

Any hint, response, idea, anyone ?

Hi,

sorry, something new in 300's firmware is preventing old dictionary code from running. Now it's also mentioned in download description. Will be fixed soon.

By the way, I flashed it without a hitch. After flashing, everything went well, I noticed that the pages turn MUCH faster (at least on mine) and I like the way everything looks. Great job, and by the way, for me, I havent noticed any difference in battery usage. I don't use the dictionary, and I can't see myself using it, so this is perfect for me. Thanks! Made my great little reader that much better!
Oh, yeah, one thing I did notice. When trying to change the time, on the minutes I couldn't go to a lower number. For example. It was 2:11 but the reader said 1:42. I could change the hours time to 2, but on the minutes, it didn't roll over from 5 to 0, and same with 2 to 0. And there is no way to go backwards but just forwards. Its not a big deal to me, just noting it. Am I missing something or is this a bug?
(and yes, it was repeatable)

I had a bit time to play with "compiled" Core-functions in my Sim-Enviro, and it seams that "compiled" and "sandboxed" JS-functions can't see each other.

So I did a (very) simple wrapper to have _Core.any.thing = getSoValue(Core.any.thing).
Complete Simulator with "compiled" Core-functions is here

Dictionary still hangs with _Core.log.loggers("") so still coment this out.

I installed version 2.0.2 on my prs + sony reader 300. Everything went well but not how to put the menu in Spanish. Option only appears in English, German, French, Dutch, Italian and Russian. Is there any way?

Inside the downloaded zip file is a folder called "languages" and within it is the file "Spanish" but not if used for something.

Hi,

the files that you see are for the PRS+ part. The Sony part for 300 wasn't translated yet, so there are no Spanish menus.
This still needs to be translated to Spanish.

I have done this for the PRS-505 in my Change Language with firmware v.1.4.0.23260 and modified PRS+ post.

The asset file should at least serve as base.

Also the 350/650 firmwares contain spanish language asset-files. [/Edit]

@Kartu: As you use SONY-language-assets with the 300/600 you may eventually consider this also for the forthcoming 505-version.

Worked like a charm and I love the "browse by folders".

But I have an issue I've not yet found in this thread. All the menu entries added by prs+ are cryptic and long.

e.g. the Browse Folder menu entry in the main menu reads:

BrowseFolders...ROWSE_FOLDERS
BrowseFoldersNODE_BROWSE_FOLDERS_COMMENT
---

or e.g the History entry
---
BookHistory.TITLE
BookHistory.FUNC_X_BOOKS

the same is true for all the added entries in the settings.

Seems that the new menu links are not replaced by the proper string in any language I choose. By default I use german, but I have the same problem with english, too.

any ideas?

It's missing translations, "works as intended".

It's become quite difficult to add/delete strings from all translation files, so this part is waiting for the build script to simplify this part.
