There will definitely be firmware update(s) before the Borders launch. I just can't be 100% certain it will have PDFReflow or other specific features. As soon as we know the contents of the updates, we'll be sure to let you know.

Hi!

Can I ask what software you use to convert pdf files to ePub files? I'd like to be able to load documentation (usually supplied as pdf files) on my Kobo, but they're usually formatted for 8.5 X 11, so I have to zoom in and scroll a lot. It might work better if I converted them to ePub files first.

Thanks!

Calibre (Windows/Mac) can do that for you.

New to ebooks, so I really had no idea. Thanks!

Thanks! I installed Calibre and tried converting a couple of software manuals with it. The results aren't perfect, but it's usable. Some special characters were converted to question marks, and as other people have noted, the font sizing doesn't seem to work for these files, although it does for the free books that come with the Kobo. The screen prints in the manual were brought in, though, so I'm happy about that.

I noticed that when I copied a PDF file onto the Kobo, it was imported as a "document", whereas when I copied the converted ePub files to the Kobo, they were imported as "books". It would be nice to be able to specify which menu they should be included in, but I guess there no way yet to do that.

Books not deleted from database

I've just noticed (and verified!) that books that were dragged onto the Kobo, processed, and maybe read, do not get deleted from the sqlite database after the book is deleted from the Kobo and emptied from the trash.

I think that is a bug, and I won't be convinced it's a feature, and I'd like to see it fixed.

Pholy, did you disconnect the Kobo? and let it run the "Processing New Content"?

I'm just curious.

Yes, I did. I was hoping that "Processing..." step might actually compare the content of the database with the content of the file directory, but I think it just looks for file names that are not in the database. It really should check both ways.

That "Processing..." step really makes checking anything take a long time...

I had that problem. I deleted the files from the kobo manually (.epub and .profile and maybe some more) and then I had empty book tittles on my Kobo. I whent into ADE and I was able to delete the empties from there.

I have a bit of a stupid question. When the firmware is updated how do I actually update my Kobo?
For Desktop Application updates:
When you start the application, the app will 'dial home' and check to see if there's an update. It will prompt you to update and if you say yes, it will install the update.

For eReader Updates:
When you plug in your Kobo eReader and SYNC, the application will detect if there is an update available and prompt you. If you say yes, it will update the eReader firmware and inform you that eReader updates will take effect the next time you reboot the eReader. So we'd advise rebooting the eReader right after the update has installed.

Hope that helps.

I'll leave it plugged in for a couple of hours.
So in addition to my other two requests, please Kobo could you fix the battery meter?

I've noticed this too.
The bad thing is that if you edit the book's table of contents and re-load the book onto the Kobo, Kobo displays each chapter in the table of contents multiple times.
This probably isn't a big deal for most people, as they aren't editing the ePubs, but it's a pain for anyone who is.

My wish list:

1. Bookmarking. It's the single thing that's holding me back.

2. pdf reflow would be nice.

3. Did I mention bookmarking?
