Based on the feedback here, I think we may disable Automatic Metadata and Thumbnail indexing in the release.

@splendor: You can edit your dr.ini to add the line below. It will then not do the thumbnails anymore and indexing should be pretty fast.
Code:
/apps/er/sys/index/add_with_metadata=false

I've been trying to install the latest beta firmware but the device constantly asks me if I want to restart to install the firmware and it never does install anything. I've tried 3 different sd cards and still nothing.

Edit: when I tried the update for the tenth time or so, it worked - strange.

Good to hear - but I'll let all of you who know what you are doing play with this before I brick my unit

A minor bug: when the device becomes fully charged the LED no longer turns green. It stays orange as if it was still charging.

It is not a minor bug, it's a very serious bug that can damage your battery. I've reported in iRex own forums.

I still believe it's a minor issue. I'm pretty sure the battery isn't being charged when it's full despite the orange LED.

Depends on what the bug is. If it's just the LED, then it's not a big deal. If the charging circuitry is still trying to charge the battery past 100%, then yes, that's serious. I don't think we know that's the case though. I'm not even sure if that's something controlled by the firmware. I assume that's a function of the battery IC, right?

It sounds to me like it's just a bug with the LED.

It's not really possible to brick your unit with a software update as long as you don't start modifying the binaries with a HEX editor...

Edit: and even if you would do that, recovery is still possible without an RMA.

Indeed. The charger is working fine, the LED could indeed be wrong due to a software bug. The charger is not controlled by our software, but by specialized firmware. We'll look into this new issue, should be minor and easily fixed.

The ray into battery icon is showed too. It is not only the led, and that's what make me think was charger wasn't cutting the charge...

Also that could be a software bug and does not necessarily reflect the charger status. We're looking into this, but we've not yet reproduced it here.

We're also unable to reproduce this issue here. Toggling sensor lock on/off has no effect on this?

If it is only a software problem and charger disconnects ok no problem.

Nope. :-(

At least Mackx and I have the same problem.

I'm open to any kind of test or software installation you want to do in my device with the condition of not bricking it (or warrant me a free solution if bricked).

rfog, there is something wrong with that sensor of your reader... my sensors work, in every firmware: 1.7.1. and both the 0401 and 0408 beta's.
does it help if you lock and unlock the sensors?
have you tried renaming the dr.ini file to dr.old.ini and then resetting the device? There might be some old settings from the dr1000.ini file that got transferred and is now putting the right sensor in an undefined status.

what version of the micro application do you have (settings => device info)?
I have version 0.41
