Somewhat confusingly, the word donger sounds identical to the word donga which is a kind of portable house. They're widely used in the mining industry where permanent infrastructure is difficult and expensive to arrange.

So don't be too alarmed if an Australian tells you that his donger has to be transported on the back of a truck. He might mean donga. But then again he might not....

Where I work in the NT has a lot of Dongas used for accommodation. The local aborigines call the other donger (comes from being able to dong something probably on the head - but I digress)

The OED has tadger as being Northern (British) slang, with their earliest reference 1949. The etymology is not known, but "tadpole" is suggested

Several of these words are current in British English, contrary to what Harry suggested re "brickies" being the only one.
