I got pretty close, considering I had a banner year of distractions and crises.

I have 72 books under my belt for the year so far. Will probably end around 80.

I use Goodreads to track my reading and TBR piles. I highly recommend it.

I already have a reputation for clumsiness (I once fell off a quite adequate footpath and cracked a bone in my ankle ), so I don't think I'll start reading while walking any time soon.

Ok, the only other idea which I can come up with is reading while standing and paddling on a stationary bike. The standing bit to negate having to sit on the bike seat.

If that doesn't work for you I'm all out of ideas!

While I am not certain about standing and paddling a stationary bike it does lead to the idea that someone could design an exercise machine with integrated book reader: you would have to walk/run/ride so far before it will let you turn the page. Something like that could have us all reaching 100 books every year and being super healthy too!

I try to "read" audio books while walking. I find it much safer.

I actually keep a book journal so I have actually written at least one page on each and every one of my books

This was the first year i'd ever done such a thing, and it has been VERY gratifying. I recommend it to people who really chew through books. It was great to sit down and look back over what i thought of a book in January. It also helps me keep track of what i'd really be able to suggest to other friends depending on the content, etc.

I read several books earlier in the year that would have been 800+ pages each (if I were reading the pbook version), but I've also read some YA, so I'm debating about counting PAGES instead of books and setting a goal that way so I don't need to "cheat" to meet my goal, or put off reading a really good book just because it's 1,000 pages

I'm just not sure about what kind of goal to set for pages. Maybe 500 pages per book is reasonable? Multiplied by 52 weeks is 26,000 pages. I've completed 28 books and 13,692 pages so far this year.
I like the idea of pages as well. I know there is a group at Goodreads for a million pages in your lifetime (or something like that). Some books I read are 1000 pages and some 250.

I am at 146 I think. I have to check my Goodreads account. I was at 145 the other day and I know I have finished at least one book since.

Congrats to everybody that attempted a goal! Whether you made it or not, I bet you read a lot of great books along the way.

An especially good idea where you're flying eh PilotBob? I have not yet ever listened to an audio-book, I really must try it one day. Do the book counts for these challenges accept audio?

I do too (my wife tells me there's a word for people like this ). I have tried to keep my reviews down to just a few paragraphs (which gets really really difficult to do with some books), as I find this the most useful for looking through later. I have often been surprised by the difference between my review written just after reading the book and my memory of it some years on.

I really enjoy audio books. Although some are done much better than others. Ender's Game is one of the best, and the Harry Potter books are well done by Jim Dale, although I hear the Steve Fry one is even better.

They are great for walks or commutes or long drives. And yes they count.

I love Jim Dale's Potter books. I did get one of Stephen Fry's to see what it was like, but I think Dale does the voices much better. That is only my opinion of course.

If you're new to the habit Moleskine makes a book lovers journal that has a pre-printed template for inputting info, quotes, as well as some customizeable "to read" sections and things like that. Its how I got started.
