Aside of the Boy series by Cabot, I lean towards Victorian-age stories and sagas. Lisa Kleypas has some thrilling stories, as well as Johanna Lindsey, Candace Camp, Kathleen Woodwiss and, more into the erotic side, Robin Schone.

My reading tastes have changed a little over the years. When I was younger I read romances whether current day or historical. Now I still read romances, but have branched out to more exotic romances ie shapeshifters, vampires ect. I also like Mystery, and some science fiction So long as the writing is good & it has a happy ending I'm a happy camper.
Some of my favorite authors are Laurell K Hamilton, Shelly Laurenston, Fern Michaels, Dana Marie Bell, Rebecca Royce. All of my romance books include erotica, even the fan fiction I read contains sex. If I want to be bored I'll watch the tv show. Sex is a part of life, I want it in my books as well. Trying to label it as porn is hypocritical at best. Don't want it, no one is forcing you to read it. But don't try to dictate what anyone else should read or like. |

The certain website almost ready
Dear All:
Early next week the certain website I am told to not give details about will be opening. Based on what I am seeing on here, you should really love this store. I have looked up almost every author you have mentioned and every category and this website will have it. The hold-up is DROPPING prices. We initially entered what we thought was a fair margin. Now we are loweribng again to hopefully get off to a great start. I am spending my time between our website draft and the New York Times Bestsellers List to ensure this certain website will have almost every one of the bestsellers. This certain website will do a Soft Run of two weeks where only Astak Dedicated Forum members can search, try, and buy! God, I cannot wait to stop saying "this certain website"!! OH, and YES I have noticed SO many Sony owners on this thread! Welcome!! This website will work fine for your devices! You will find it is ideal for Sony as well as Astak lovers. Robert, can you give us an idea what the prices will be like? Like will they be more than Amazon? Same? Less?
Oh and will international readers be able to buy any book they like? Or will it be limited? |

Specific authors I like--
Z.A. Maxfield Lee Rowan Jordan Castillo Price D.J. Manly Kayelle Allen Stephanie Vaughn Can you say whether you're going with/without DRM? Whether a purchase buys one format or all formats for that book? What payment types are likely to work? I'll understand if you can't answer some questions yet. |

Prices and international
Quote:
The General Manager of the new eBook Store being talked about has told everyone he wants the price at most 10% above our cost. That should translate to really great prices I think... but we will only know later when it opens. I can only say that we aim to be a bargain and not to maximize profit. The PAY titles (some 200,000 to start) will be international. You can buy from anywhere on earth and we specifically demanded Australians to be able to buy. No problem there. Google ONLY grants the license to us to sell the free Google eBooks in their library to the USA. We have a request in to make this international or at the least Canada, USA,and Australia but that is under study. This is NOT our wishes but Google sets the rules for their eBooks. We are pushing like mad to get this changed! It looks like the pricing reductions are going to delay things about another week. Projected launch date is now March 15. |

Those books that are not public domain in other places would have to be dealt with differently--which is why Google doesn't bother with them; it's not worth their time to sort out which books are & aren't PD everywhere. |

DRM/Non-DRM
Quote:
Of course we will have both DRM and Non-DRM eBooks. You need to have DRM to have all the latest Bestsellers. That is, of course, set by the publisher and is not our choice. We still HATE DRM... but the choice is not ours. The site will take PayPal and Credit Cards. I will check to see if there are other options. The entire website is either in PDF or EPUB only. The intent is to make things simple and ensure if you find a book you want it will work flawlessly. ALL Google are in PDF. Most others are offered in your choice of PDF or EPUB. I will check on the authors that you have named!! |

They are updating the search engine but
Quote:
I can tell you that Z.A. Maxfield, Jordan Castillo Price and D.J. Manly are clearly there. The search engine is down while they update so I cannot say about the others yet! |

If I get one, I take ePub; it's more flexible. If I get both, I'll download both, and probably edit the PDF to readability. (Crop the margins out, add tags & sometimes bookmarks.) I like *some* PDFs better than epub--but since I never know how the PDF is formatted before I download, I always pick ePub first. |

I'm afraid the only "romance" I like is the one between Dorothy Sayers' two detectives Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane. Otherwise, I prefer Medieval history, music history (I'll read music too, if you've got it), and popular science (such as Stephen Hawking). I also love a really creepy (not necessarily gory) horror story.

I guess it depends on what age group you are trying to target as well. I read alot of mystery, parenting, classics and general fiction. I tend to stay away from the romance novels... I am not sure why, I just think they are soggy. Scifi may be a good addtion as well (although I guess more guys read those). Basically... if you can see the book being aired as a movie on Lifetime it's something that most women will enjoy. As another posted said, parenting books would be a really nice thing to have easy access to.
