Absolutely satisfied
![]() I sent my PRS-500 in on a Thursday and it was returned by the next Wednesday. All shipments were UPS Overnight. The new upgrade is working fantastic. My battery, after reading 2 books about 300 pages each, has just dropped to 2 bars so I cannot complain. It's excellent service and I'm reading library books like crazy. Very satisfied Sony customer. I hope the rest of you will be just as happy as I am. Mary from WI |

I sent my PRS-500 in on Wednesday, 3/24/2010 via UPS overnight. It was back at my home on Wednesday, 3/31/2010.
I am very happy with the repair! It is now Wednesday, 4/7/2010, and I have not charged it up again. The PRS-500 is still going strong after 1 week, over 1,000 pages & the formatting 3 books to Small font then to Medium font. However, there was a couple moment of concern on the day I got it back. I turned it on and got a “battery low” warning. I turned it off and put it on the wall charger. After it was fully charged I turned it on again. It must have been placed on “reset” at the Sony repair facility, as it took 4-6 minutes to boot up. By the time I had gone into and formatted the book it was on, the battery meter had dropped to ¾ full. I decided to not recharge it until it dropped lower. It has been a week and the battery meter is still at ¾ charge, i.e. not even a ¼ drop in 1 full week. |

I have also sent back the PRS-500 and received it back in record time. I recharged it last night and will now see how long the battery will last.
I noticed a new options menu referencing "sleep mode" which was set on. Does anyone know what this refers to? Thank you |

These are pretty solid improvements. I was reading an 800 page (at Medium) book, and recharged 3 times! And, when it first formatted the book upon copy, I'd lose a bar immediately. The Reader software used to pre-format, but for some reason now it leaves it entirely up to the Reader. For the PRS-500, this is a major loss, as the reformatting takes quite a while, and if you cycle through font sizes, you get formatted 3x! I can see the PRS-600 burning through this in a few seconds, but the 500 isn't nearly as up to the task. -Pie |

So... my Reader is being shipped back, and it's stuck in Customs according to UPS.
Did Texas secede from the union after all? I called Sony, and they were clueless. -Pie |

my sony prs-500 upgrade redux
Hi,
I had sent my prs-500 in to get upgraded months ago. I actually hadn't noticed the battery drain when I received an empty box from Sony. I sent mine back last week (thursday) and got it back tuesday. Everything seems ok -- I have my books and everything -- but whoever replaced the chip left schmutz on the reader's back panel. I guess I'll survive. |

I got mine backing within a week of sending it off, first impression was a considerable notice in speed when starting up the reader and opening a new ePUB format book as well as flicking through the sizes, when the original upgrade was done to support ePUB it could take up to 5 minutes to load the reader from an off state and about 2-3 minutes per text size.
I fully charged with battery with just the charger, not the docking station as the USB connection drains a little life according to some people, I opened a new book 458 pages flicked through each one and only 1 bar of battery has gone. Looks like it may be back to the 2000 page turns I got when the 500 very first came out. Wish the $10 coupon didnt expire so soon all the books I really want are not out until the end of the year, but hey I got a freebie of something I probably would not have got round to buying if my Star Trek books were out (BTW why have all the Star Trek books vanished from the book store, even the ones I already purchased seem to be nolonger available?). I am very satisfied at Sony for taking the initiative in repairing the reader, good on them, that's why I have brand loyalty with Sony. |

If they haven't been converted to ePub, they won't show up in the regular store listings or searches. Did you try looking for them under the "My Purchased eBooks" section of "Account Overview" in the Sony software? If they haven't been converted yet they'll show up in there with an "Available Soon" button instead of "Download Now". |

Now, I ran into a book that was replaced in the store. The NIV Bible for the NIV Bible. The one I bought shows "Available Soon." Because the one currently for purchase is obviously the same as the one in my list, I contacted Sony and they agreed the link was probably bad and they'd try to fix it. I won't know for a few days if it works. I'm sure my case is pretty unique, but it's still worth searching the store for the same Star Trek books to see if they are there. If so, let Sony know, and they may fix the link so you can re-download. Otherwise, what BobVA said applies: the conversion to ePUB on the publisher end hasn't happened yet, and you just need to wait. -Pie |

I checked my account and all the star trek books I have purchased are there and they have the download now button not available soon.
So I searched some that I had already purchased but they do not show up in the store. And at least 2 that I know of were already in ePub format. I contacted sony via email and got a reply back that if books are not available I may have to wait until they have a contract with the publisher, I wrote back saying I had already purchased a tonne and got another reply back with, "we may not be able to supply a specific date that we can acquire a license from the publisher Simon & Schuster". Maybe the nolonger have the right to sell them, that would suck and mean I'd need to get my books elsewhere, Since I got my 500 I have only purchased books from the sony software and use that to sync between my 500 & my wife's 505. |
