The saga continues.......yesterday's press release and Best Buy posting on irexreader.com is now gone. It's not just removed from the front page, but the press release is no longer listed on the press page on their site. I can't believe I'm still interested in this device with the level of incompetence these folks continue to demonstrate.

At this stage, I don't know what to make of this. I'll be moving on in my search. This is a bad joke.

Perhaps the problem is the alliance with Barnes & Noble. I can't see IREX tapping into the ebook store along with the nook and the QUE proReader.

It's definitely a confusing situation. They would have had to have contracts for access and distribution in place prior to the general announcements which would make me think they just continue to have issues in getting the pipeline filled. However, it's always possible that those contracts had certain performance criteria such as timing of product, etc. I guess we won't know until it actually starts shipping, but this just gets more strange with each passing day.

IMO, the question is "who controls the release date at this point". What iRex thinks the date is supposed to be might be irrelevant, it could be up to the retailer to decide when they're ready. Yes, iRex has had some issues with dates in the past, but for all we know BestBuy could have told them a date and then changed their minds.

Getting real information from somebody would be nice, the question is, who is that somebody?

Anyone know where BB's online stock comes from? If one of their main distribution centers is on the east coast, we've been hammered recently with a really bad winter storm (breaking records from the 1920's) that is playing havoc with all sorts of mail/shipping problems. It could be that they are having delays getting the stock shipped around to where it needs to be.

I sent an email off to the North American media contact for iRex. I don't really expect to get an answer, but maybe we'll get lucky and get some definitive information.

I would think Best Buy would want to start selling as soon as they have the product. As a retailer they simply want to move as much product as they can. However, since iRex already gave them bad data before (the original launch plan) they could now be requiring a certain amount of inventory before actually releasing the product. It's all just speculation, but it is definitely odd to put out a press release and then have it disappear the next day.

That wouldn't explain all of the delays, certainly. It's interesting that they originally announced the product months ago, but didn't get FCC certification until recently. I'm guessing that was a big part of it, along with typical software delays.

However, the rumors about the 4th, and then the 15th could possibly be weather. I would think they would have gotten all the stock in place already, but there were other posts talking to BB reps who said that they were having shipping problems, and implied that they weren't ready for a release yet.

All I'm doing is speculating though, we don't have any "real" information.

That's my impression as well, the inventory isn't in place yet. As for the reason (not that it matters), that's anyone's guess.

As I said over on the other forum, I'll believe it's finally available when the UPS box shows up on my doorstep.
