Absolutely right. Plus the series wouldn't have come back (or likely attracted two excellent leads) without a superb exec. producer who was also a long time die-hard fan.

Also, thanks for correcting my spelling of Moffat. I knew I should have looked that up. Ah well. 'tis no shame to be corrected by the man with the dalek avatar!

I recall, as a child surfing the old black and white turn knob tv and coming across the public broadcasting network. At that moment the screen went black and the announcer in a thick British accent said "And now for fifteen seconds of sex." In the true adolesent spirit, I waited. The announcer returned and replied "Okay, you may stop now!" I couldn't stop laughing. I was hooked on...erm...wait, you were discussing the Doctor and not Monty.
Yeah, yeah....the Doctor, followed immediately after and I became hooked on both that day! Religiously watched both until PBS stopped running them. That was the days when Tom was the Doctor. When they brought it back my wife got hooked on them and we are eagerly awaiting the new season.
And they did it ala Bond. Bring in a younger version to draw in a new generation of fans.
Wait!!! are we getting old? Is that what they are saying? That we are OLD and they need YOUNGER fans???!!!

(SIGH)

I am going to miss this Doctor. I am also wondering how they plan on handling the limited number of regenerations that he is allowed. Isn't it something like 12 or 13? They are starting to get close to the max number are they not?

Did you watch Boston Legal? It was one of the best shows on TV, I thought. One of the last season epiosodes when they knew they had been canceled they did a show about suing TV companies and how all the TV shows now a days where geared to 20 somethings and having young attractive cast was more important than good acting and plots, etc. The problem here is that the core TV audience is actually aging. This older TV audience is actually the one with all the money to spend and who shows and ads should be geared to.

Not that I have a problem with Dave Tennant... but when you think of someone that is wise beyond his years you usually think of some one a bit more mature... someone... dare I say middle aged.

I never watched the orignal show much as a kid, but when they bought it back I really liked Christopher Eccleston as Dr. Who and Billie Piper as Rose.

I had no idea they "killed off" the major characters as the show went along. I can see how this keeps the show going, and keeps it fresh, but if you really like a character it can suck.

Something I find annoying is how BBC America edits the episodes to fit the commercials. Too many times they cut a few seconds here and there that are part of the story, a sentence here and there that they show in the regular BBC broadcasts.

I also end up missing the the last 30 secs to 1 minute on my TiVo because of the weird show lengths.

That's why you have to set up the recording/season pass to record an extra few minutes. (or start a few minutes early as I have to with the local news).

Yeah but sometimes that causes other shows to get clipped at the beginning of the recording.

How long is it, when you add commercials, as a matter of interest? It's shown in a 1h "time slot" here in the UK, but of course it runs straight through, with no commercials.

BBCA initially had the last few specials run an hour and fifteen minutes. Later runs were cut down to an hour. Now SciFi (ugh, "SyFy") always cut them down.

I noticed the "End of Time" specials I erm, got, were both 1 hour long with no commercials. Most 1hr timeslot US shows are actually 42 minutes long.

BBC is mostly subsidized right, so no commercials?
