In fact (at least IMHO) that's one of best things that could be done to help. It's really overpopulation that is at the heart of many of our environmental problems.

There are NOT many scientists disagreeing with me. 97% of climatologists who hold a PhD and publish scientific papers say global warming is occurring.

That is called a consensus. Conservatives and skeptics with vested interests might be interested in hearing what 'weathermen' think about the issue or scientists from fields other than climatology who don't publish scientific papers dealing with climatology, but it is smarter and more rational to listen to the REAL scientists. They have known about it for 20 years, the general public is just catching up.

Yes it is ignorance to choose to believe a weatherman or conservative talk show host over a climatologist. Willful ignorance.

So with 66% in agreement that global warming is happening, shouldn't we be trying to do something about it?

Who's wit me for nuclear winter?

Seriously though if 2/3's agree it is happening, shouldn't we be doing everything we can to stop or slow it down?
About 2/3 of the British public think that 'The X Factor'and 'Strictly Come Dancing' are good TV programmes - does that mean I should be forced to watch them?

Don't confuse the majority opinion with the truth!

More specifically it is over-consumption as opposed to over population.

If we weren't all brainwashed into believing everyone needs their very own car or two, a motorbike for weekend fun, big screen tv, dvd player, holiday house, boat, yearly overseas holiday, new clothes every 6 months to keep up with the fashions, hair and makeup products coming out the wah-zoo, so much jewellery we can't wear it all, 2 Xboxes(modded or unmodded!) and a playstation for each kid, etc etc etc then there would easily be enough to go around with plenty left over and no real issue with resources.

Of course a predominantly capitalist world economy couldn't work without excessive and ever increasing consumption. Ergo, we blame over population for the problems of excess, believing that with fewer people there wouldn't be a problem, rather than over consumption. Of course there would still be a problem with the life style, it just may not have manifested yet.

Cheers,

I don't think I every said this poll represents TRUTH.

But what I AM SAYING is that if 2/3 or the people believe global warming is happening then we need to be DOING SOMETHING rather than pretending it's some kind of movie on TV.

As far as the TV programs, no one is forcing you to watch them, in fact, one of the best things you can do to begin to learn about reality is to turn it off and start reading -- particularly scientific peer-reviewed journals.

And what I am saying is that the fact that 2/3 of people believe something does not make it true!

I don't watch them (fairly obviously I would of thought) and I do read a lot, sometimes even stuff which doesn't just reinforce my own narrow view!

The path to enlightenment start by asking questions....

They are meaningful questions to the issue at hand.

Why won't someone answer them?

as I indicated Ralph, you are asking the wrong group, if you are serious about getting answers you should be going to journals to see if they have already been addressed (I'm confident that they have) or asking the climate scientists themselves not some buncha book-lovers.

But Mr. Kennyc, you believe in Global Warming. You've gone to many post supporting the idea. I asked questions that might disagree with your beliefs. Why do you dance around them while speaking of closed minds? All I ask for is answers. If they disagree with my opinions, I'll consider changing my opinions - but I want to see the data first! All I seem to get is hysteria from the media and grant-givers perverting the scientific method by withholding money from research who ask question they don't want mentioned because the answers might disagree with their opinions....

And when any scientist withholds his raw data from other people's review, that ain't no scientist, that's a politician....

( And I ask this sort of question about any scientific issue, not just Global Warming. I asked the same questions about, say, Cold Fusion.)

Ralph there is no need for me to do your research for you.

I've provided you with plenty of information to begin the search. You might even try Google and report back to us.

Seek and ye shall find.

Enjoy.
