Congratulations
I've seen others that could have easily defeated mine within the threads.

Over here, we just call it second Christmasday. We also have a second easterday and a second pentecost day. And that's about all the public holidays we have (oh wait, there's two more... Ascension Thursday and new years day).

All shops are closed on Christmas day and easter, Ascension Thursday and pentecost. But the day after (except ascenion thursday as the day after is just an ordinary friday), large showrooms are generally open (even though it's a public holiday). So, kitchens, furniture, cars and such. The day after easter and pentecost, garden centers are usually open as well (hey, it's in spring!)

I've gone to IKEA on second easter day once and never again. I just can't understand people who go out on those days. It's only busy beyond busy, parking space is non-existent hours before the stores open, if you're even able to get to the store itself. Traffic jams on the highway because of people searching for a parking spot aren't rare...

yep, same here. Black Friday generally occurs in summer, and signifies the holiday traffic on the French highways... (when several countries start their summer holiday season it can get very (and that's an understatement!) busy there...)

Ah, forgot about that! And every 5 years we've got something called freedom day, but somehow that is only when it's on a saturday or sunday that it is an official day off...

Problem is, all those days are at the start of the year... January, somewhere after March 21nd for easter, 40 days later ascension day and 10 days later pentecoste... (and somewhere between easter and ascencion Queen's Day) and the long haul to christmas... Which will fall on a saturday if you've a really unlucky year!

Australian public holidays are, in order:

New Years Day
Australia Day
Good Friday
Easter Monday
ANZAC Day
Queen's Birthday
Christmas Day
Boxing Day

Some states have Labour Day in October, and I think the others (like us) get a holiday somewhere else (I don't know about Queensland, even though I live here, because I don't work).

Also, if some of these holidays fall on a weekend, you generally still get a public holiday, on the Monday or the Friday.

Cheers,
Marc
