Got them!! I'll read them soon. I couldn't go wrong with that price. And those books don't necessarily have to be read in order do they?? I belong to several libraries that have books in both of those series so I'll work my way through those as well.

Nope! Candy Cane has three short stories (two of them are the authors of the other books). Bake Sale Murder is something like number 11 in a series, but I had no problems, and This Pen for Hire was the first in the series.

Sad though, because only a few of each series is available in ebook.

I wouldn't be surprised if they never officially announce who the writer really is, the information will leak out at some point, but there's no real benefit to them to announce it.

For those who have the book, what's it like, it's in my queue to buy, but I want to clear some of my currently unread books.

Demon Ex Machina by Julie Kenner. Latest in the Demon Hunting Soccer Mom series. Ever wonder what would happen if Buffy grew up, got married, and had kids? This series answers that in the most hilarious fashion.

Scratch that - bought Katherine Hall Page's The Body in the Sleigh last night :-). 18th in the Faith Fairchild series.

The Weight of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf - mainstream book - stayed up late to finish it.

And, I just bought the Eon series by Greg Bear - read them many years ago in PB and was ready to do it again - Eon, Legacy and Eternity.

didja get a "deal" on the Eon Series? I might pick that up as I think I may have only read the first one.

Michael Dobbs, The Edge of Madness; author of House of Cards. I've only managed a couple of chapters, already I've chuckled at a few descriptions. He has a dry style, with amusing insights into power politics.

Synopsis
There were no guns, no missiles, no vapour trails stretching like accusing fingers across the skies, none of the obliterating explosions and sudden bursts of darkness you would expect. Not even a scream. There was nothing, save for the tentative striking of keys on a cheap keyboard. Yet make no mistake; this was warfare, and it would bring the world to the edge of damnation …
Cyber-war. Not the sort that steals identities and raids bank accounts but the kind that brings nations to their knees, switching off their energy lifelines, crippling financial markets, starving their leaders of authority, making populations panic. Much of the world is being dragged to the brink of chaos, but no one knows - yet - who is responsible.
Hidden far away, in a castle on the west coast of Scotland, an extraordinary meeting is about to take place. Under conditions of the most compelling secrecy the two leaders of Britain and Russia gather with the most powerful woman in the world, the President of the United States, to combat the threat. Yet they bring with them old wounds and personal agendas that split them apart. Harry Jones, the SAS-trained politician, is with them and in the few crucial hours they have to decide the fate of the planet, he must try to save them from themselves. Terrifying decisions have to be made. Not everyone can survive.

Just picked up "Tom Paine Maru" by L. Neil Smith. Just saw it came out in Smashwords and with this is the version that he originally wrote and not the one published (apparently the one released by Tor was massively different due to removal of any controversial political and religious content), I had to pick it up.

Now to read it and find out who was correct: Tor or Smith.

I'm a HUGE fan of John Irving and just purchased his newest novel, "Last Night in Twisted River: A Novel," from Amazon.

I purchased it as an ebook, which I didn't make clear. (My "problem" is that I also collect First Editions, and am lucky to own in F/F condition The Water-Method Man and The 158-Pound Marriage.)

I'm almost finished with Real World, by Natsuo Kirino, a short novel that I'm reading on my Kindle. I should be finished with that tomorrow and will then start on Irving's novel.

I'll let you know how it goes - but I really love his writing and the love he feels for his characters.

In passing, John Irving is going to be on BBC radio's Bookclub in December, talking about 'A Prayer for Owen Meany'.

Thank you for that information. Maybe there's some way I can get that here in Peru?

A Prayer for Owen Meany is one of my favorite novels by him.
