Perhaps he should learn:-). That's about as many in English as I have seen. In German there are a lot more out there (I know of a complete set of the first 2000, and I think there are more) and you can actually get them legally nowadays: http://www.perry-rhodan.net/produkte/ebook/index.html

I find myself re-reading Frank Herbert's Dune over and over again. Once I get started, I can't resist re-reading the whole series (which will take me at least three months to complete the whole cycle).

I am not much of a re-reader, but the book that comes to mind is Patricia Briggs, "When Demons Walk."

I've re-read less than 10 books; it's very rare for me to even consider it. Maybe now that I'm older and finding my memory start to go...

Hey Maria, that sounds familiar maybe. I began losing my mind about 2 or 3 yrs ago, and since then, I've happily re-read a few "new again to me" books.

Ah yes, the Dragons of Pern stories by Anne McCaffrey. I've read every one of them several times. Actually I first was introduced to them on my iPod; then I bought them all, and now have them on my PRS700.

Guess my most re-read is a toss up. I have all of James Mitchner books (hardbound) which I've re-read and re-read. Right up there is the Azimov Foundation trilogy, also re-read umpteen times.

I was reading the Foundation series on vacation in Puerto Vallarta a few years ago and someone came up to me and asked what I was reading, so I told him. I also said that this was probably the 4th or 5th time I'd read them. He couldn't understand how I could re-read a book, that I already knew the plot, and that the butler didn't always do it. With me, there's usually a few years between readings so I don't always remember exactly what's happening.

I remember watching the movie Apocalypse Now, and every time I saw the movie (the first time I saw it, I was stationed in VietNam) I saw different things, and I came to different conclusions.

The same thing with good books.

The 2 I've re-read over the years have been Gone With The Wind and Stephen King's The Stand. Haven't for a number of years...guess there's always something new to read that takes precedence.

Wow, a lot of good reading ideas on this thread, and I'm seeing a lot of personal favourites being mentioned as well! Books I've re-read the most would be:

Fifth Business (Robertson Davies). Although I prefer his "The Rebel Angels", I've read Fifth Business more times.

Candide (Voltaire) - For some reason I had to re-read it in several french lit classes!

His Dark Materials (Philip Pullman). Lent it out to a cousin who never returned it, and still can't get over it! I haven't picked up a new copy because I can't seem to find an edition with the same cover as my old one, which I really liked. (It came in a snazzy gold box set)

1984 (Orwell) Another one of those school reads I really liked and re-read several times.

Spring Snow (Yukio Mishima). I used to re-read it once a year.

Honourable mentions should be given to The Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, Middlesex, anything by Haruki Murakami....

I hate this forum, every time I read a thread I come out with a list of books I want to read or re-read, lol.

I like to re-read books once in a while. Some I've re-read because the book really touched on something for me. Also, when I'm bored or need to get away from my life I often re-read romance books.

In the first category I would put the Dune (though it's been a while since the last time), Lord of the Ring, and Dancers at the end of time series, and also East of Eden. In the second category, I recently re-read all of Jane Austen's "main" novels, plus several books of a lesser literary worth but that made for a welcome distraction at the time

This thread reminded me of the Amber series, which I loved but can't remember for certain whether I re-read or not. I don't think I still have them, I got rid of all my books about 10 years ago before moving to Japan. They don't seem to be available in e-format, what a shame...

Well, if you're going to count that sort of thing, I'd have to pick Alexander Alekhine's best games of chess, two volumes I think starting in 1908...

As per my signature, I am pretty much constantly reading Bertrand Russell's "History of Western Philosophy".

I know it sounds a bit dry, but it's great, with real humour in it. Unfortunately, I have yet to find it as an e-book

One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn is a book i first read aged 11 and still regularly reread. I am now 45. I remain as captivated now as i was then.

As a tangent to the topic, i have a book which i haved owned since publication (1986)which i find impossible to read. I have tried so many times over the last 20 odd years and would really like to finish it. It is Shootdown,The Verdict on KAL007, by R.W.Johnson.

Ah, thanks for the reminder. That is indeed a great book that I haven't read for a good few years now and which I now feel the need to reread.

Happy ready Bilbo1967. I understand how you feel; even though I know it so well it just has the knack of drawing me back to it again and again. I must say though, I lost my original copy by lending it and the translations do vary in quality. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find the original I had as I cannot remember the publisher and/or translator.
