Nope. I said I was a cheapskate. I have to build up my courage. When I was a kid we had a train trestle in our small town we used to jump off in summer. The tracks were 45 feet. Not a real prob. The top of the trestle structure was 85 feet (we meaured it with my Dads 100 foot carpenter tape.) It always took me about 30 minutes to screw up enough courage to jump. So I'm rockng back and forth now.... "c'mon chicken! Jump!..... No way man! That's 500 bucks!"
Oh... For the record, if my eyesight was what it was even 4 years ago I'd definitely buy the Kindle 2. I have to lug my readers around with me everywhere now. |

I know I'm gonna love it. I know I'll read hundreds of hours on it and each hour I read makes it cheaper per hour. "C'mon chicken! Jump!"

Order it now! Remember, if you have buyer's remorse, you can return it within 30 days and all you'll be out is the cost of shippingit back (cheap for a 30 day trial).

I just got my Kindle DX and it does exactly what I wanted it to do. The screen is a pleasure. Books download quickly over Whispernet. I have put lots of pdf's on it by dragging and dropping from my Windows XP machine. (I am a theoretical physicist, so these are Phys Rev papers, etc. The print is a bit small in full screen mode, but once you look at the layout of the page simply rotating produces a 1/3 page view which is fine for reading the paper. I don't tend to annotate papers, so not being able to do it in the Kindle DX is fine by me. When I need to underline a paper and/or add comments I first load it into Acrobat or PDF Annotator and do what I need on my tablet, then put it back on the Kindle).
I am a very happy camper! |

1. Buy it as a "gift" for your wife - something for her to read while you replace the floor. Then immediately put all of YOUR books on it. 2. Trade in your wife for a DX? 3. Bargin - you replace the kitchen for her, she gets you the DX. 4. Guilt - you DESERVE a DX for Father's Day!!! ![]() |

I guess I’m in the minority but I don't want an e-reader any bigger than my K2.
I upgraded the size of the pocketbook I carry to one that’s big enough for the K2 but that’s the biggest bag I’d want to have to carry around as I have tendinitis in my right shoulder and a larger bag would aggravate it. I do wind up taking my K2 every where me. I can totally understand wanting the DX if you need to enlarge the print to read it but I keep my print size at the 2 second smallest option on the K2 so the smaller screen is more than adequate to my needs. In the future when / if prices for e-readers drop significantly I’m sure I will have multiple e-readers. Until that point I’ll just stick with my K2. |

Yeah the price for the size us what's got me balked on this I guess. My wife is great and doesn't mind too much I'm buying it. We spent the last 3 years paying off 15 thousand bucks worth of debt and are now DEBT FREE! I was sold on the kindle 1. Pumped when Kindle 2 came out, procrastinated ordering the Kindle 2, then got blindsided by the DX. So I've been debating the cost verses the size verses the portability every since. I carry my Sony in a sort of purse looking container. At fist I was a little self conscious about carrying a shouder strap type purse but now I dint even think about it. It's a case for the nintendo Dx I think. (like a hand held playstation) my Sony reader fits perfectly a d it us fairly padded. I've been trying to imagine what another 8 ounces of weight added to the Sony reader experience would be like and I can't imagine it would be unbearable. I tend to hold my reader in both hands anyway. So I'm convinced (obviously trying to convince myself here) that the DX is right for me. I think my reluctance to order it stems from spending the last 3 years pretty much buying nothing to get out if debt. I sold my motorcycle and cancelled a few monthy items like Cable TV. (haven't missed it a bit) Now to buy such an expensive non essential item... I'm out of the habit. But I'm doin it. I am. I promise!!!! 'C'mon! Just jump!' I need a push. The verdict is in. Maybe I could get Obama to give me some of that sweet invented stimulus money.... (no offense meant, that was a throwaway remark)

Roy, I think you and your wife both deserve something special for paying off 15k worth of debt, she gets the new kitchen makeover and you get the DX
![]() You've spent so much time circling the Kindle, examining the purchase from all angles. It's not just a quickie impulse buy but a well thought out purchase of an item you'll use for years to come. At this point if you can afford the DX then you should get it. |

Elphaba. Your right. I noticed there are over a hundred posts in this thread of people holding my hand and assuring me the Universe won't blow up if I spend 500.. (well 600 with the 2 year no questions asked break it we replace it warranty... Which I'm gettin!) so here it is people!!!! (drum rolllllllllll taratataratararataratratataata....) I'm ordering it as son as I get home from vacation!!! THERE! I said it. So... Nothing more to see here people move along move along. LOL. I'll post some stuff about whether I like it or not. And knowing I can return it in 30 days and buy a Kindle2 if it IS too big is a huge plus.
I'm going.... Here I go.... Ok... Jump!!! Crap... I didn't jump.... I'm hopeless. |
