Please ask the maths genius if any heading starting with Discrete Mathematics and in particular Discrete Mathematics/Recursion was a bit of a brain twister?

Recursion, to put it simply, is the process of describing an action in terms of itself. This may seem a bit strange to understand, but once it "clicks" it can be an extremely powerful way of expressing certain ideas.
Then be asked to solve a recursive problem in some archaic (to some) programming language, say "FORTRAN".

It took a few hundred exercises to obtain that "click".

Why is it that all computer science classes have a math prerequisite?

Is this not the Vent and Rant thread?

Poor WDE. If it's an consolation, it would have taken a lot more than a few hundred exercises for ME to obtain that "click". Actually, I'm pretty sure it'd never happen. My brain just does not accept math as anything but a complete riddle.

Thanks, just don't get me started on Calculus! That's one for the Vent and Rant thread.

Oh, Chris took it. He was actually LOOKING FORWARD to taking it. Believe me, my feelings on it were qualified for the Vent and Rant thread, though.

I was so glad when he changed his mind on the graduate school he's attending. If he'd gone with the original one he picked, he'd have had to take two more Calculus courses to meet their qualifications. But since he went with Keller, which is part of DeVry, he didn't have to have them. He also didn't have to have all the professional references the original school requires.

Greatest of props: friends, family and trees!
I spent the afternoon in the park with my best friend and her new boyfriend (definitely a keeper), playing Frisbee and admiring (and refraining from hugging) the most beautiful trees I've seen, then the evening on the phone with my aunt (the loveliest person in the world).
I could take on anything!

Plenty of people in the park, including many clients from work. I fell on my face a few times running after the Frizbee, there was no way I could push it farther!
I'll make it up to them (the trees, that is) one way or the other!

She's his sister, so we are all related...and exactly alike! (see how I managed with subtlety to let everyone know I was lovely? )

I couldn't hug a bonsai! I'd squish it! I'd like to have one though, they're so beautiful.

So... I was wondering... should I start a "Friendly Math" thread, where you can ask questions or complain about bits of math you've never understood/liked, and I can try to help you make friends with your math side?
