Yeah, PDF support is a different bugger all together. No one has that wrapped up, and it's unlikely it will happen soon. PDF has turned into "digital paper" but it's become digital paper because it it looks the exact same when printed out no matter what views it.
Making it "just work" on an ebook reader with a screen a fourth of that size is no easy task. Quite frankly, I'm shocked their conversions work as well as they do. But hopefully as things like this become more common we'll see more things put into PDF formats that are easier to deal with. No double columns, etc. |

Point generally taken, but ePub is technically a superior (and better documented) format than Mobi.

Well, I'll give you an objection to replace it: I just got off the phone with Amazon support and the "replaceable battery" is only replaceable by Amazon. You'd have to send it back to get it replaced.
So far, the guy who leaked the pictures and specs months ago is batting a thousand, I think. Jim |

The reason why Amazon should be interested is technical books, including text books. However, Amazon has clearly decided that their marketing clout is enough to force publishers to issue sub-standard ebooks. This has already happened at O'Reilly which issues their ebook bundles in PDF and ePub and also in MOBI (which require much work on their part to make them half way readable) with the proviso that MOBI is only supported by O'Reilly on the Kindle.
The latest 1.2 firmware for the K1 includes Greek and monospaced font support. Presumably the K2 will have this out of the box. This is to address two of the glaring shortcomings of the AZW on the Kindle for technical ebooks, but there are others. The image zoom is probably also primarily for technical books. Based on the User's Guide, the K2 might have upgraded table support too. What Amazon seems to have decided to do is to tweak MOBI rather than switch to ePub. I just hope this does not make AZW a superset of MOBI. |

Does anyone have a secure Kindle ebook they could send to me? I'd really like to examine the secure Kindle format and I don't *HAVE* a Kindle so I can't just buy a Kindle ebook.
Obviously, I don't need the customer ID as I'm looking at the file structure not the contents. Derek |
