Tools AdBreak - experimental JB for ad-supported devices (5.18.1-5.18.5)

My Scribe 1st gen on 5.18.5.0.1 refuses to download ads.

I migrated the device to Amazon.fr, enabled special offers, and did a factory reset. Got the lockscreen ads setting and it's enabled.

I only get the generic Kindle store ad on lockscreen. Clicking "View All Ads" still shows nothing. Tried restarting multiple times and tried downloading and reading some of my books but still nothing.

It's been a few hours. How long is the wait usually?

Any ideas? Thanks!

You can disable ads with https://kindlemodshelf.me/disableads.html
But otherwise simply turning off ads shouldn't remove jailbreak.

For those that successfully jail broke colorsoft models, are you able to transfer files to and from calibre with 5.18.5.0.1?

I successfully jailbroke kindle_11th_2024 5.8.5.0.1 using this method!
It requires a manual step tho:
Followed standard steps. THEN, when it failed to "Bang!", I updated the version number for fs_update_kindle_11th_2024_5.18.5 in adbreak.html to the version displayed when "Bang!"ing failed.
Redid the whole process with updated adbreak.html.
Success!

So, I've done everything up until the point where I press an ad and my kindle says the version number and then asks to turn off airplane mode and if I say yes it turns it off and just goes back to showing the ad content and if I say no it just shows this stupid little question box thing. I've tried retrying the entire process like 3 times and also completed factory reset.

Can anyone help me out?

Assuming you're on 5.18.5.0.1, use the adbreak.zip from kindlemodding. It includes the necessary offsets for that version - https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaking/AdBreak/

I was also facing the same issues until I looked at the details.html / adbreak.html. The newer release 1.1 target the right version for Scribe (1st generation) on 5.18.5.0.1 (455683)

Similarly, I only have the single sponsor/ad on the main page.

Same situation here. Can't for the life of me to get my Scribe 1st gen on 5.18.5.0.1 to show ads. Did you wind up solving it or give up?

After following all the steps for the jailbreak I was able to install it on my kindle and activated the hotfix. Finally I went back and turned special offers off again (did not have to pay anything) and after turning off airplane mode the ads were again removed.

I also grabbed my partner's base 11th gen base Kindle on 5.18.5 that is ad supported and was able to install the jailbreak/hotfix perfectly.

Was super bummed I missed the WinterBreak and am very glad I decided to check on this forum again today. Thanks again!

How did you trigger the jailbreak on the Oasis? I've got one on 5.18.2. I've replaced the assets file, but tapping ads doesn't trigger anything.

Thanks. Managed to do it for my Kindle Scribe (1st generation) on 5.18.5.0.1

The steps I did were:

1. Registered for a temporary Amazon.fr account
2. Set Amazon.fr's account address and payment details to be some FR address
3. Deregister my Kindle Scribe from my Amazon.com account
4. Register the Kindle Scribe to Amazon.fr account
5. Turn on ads for Kindle Scribe in Amazon.fr account
6. Send a book to the Kindle Scribe to trigger Ad
7. There will be a single sponsor Ad on the home page
8. Put Kindle Scribe into airplane mode and start jailbreaking
9. For Adbreak package, I downloaded the latest (v1.1) from https://github.com/KindleModding/AdBreak/releases
10. Triggered the sponsor ad in main page and it should ask for WiFi followed by the start of jailbreaking
11. Installed Hotfix
12. On the Kindle Scribe, deregistered the device and re-registered it to my Amazon.com account
13. Continue with KUAL onwards

Successfully worked on my Oasis and Scribe 1st gen. Many thanks.

I'm in UK so just enabled ads on both from devices page (Oasis had previously had ads removed and scribe never had them)

Oasis showed ads pretty quick, scribe only showed that one generic ad.

Same process for both, but for scribe I did as mentioned somewhere above and clicked on the "learn more" or whatever it said on the generic ad and that seemed to work fine.

Turned off ads again from devices page.

All good. Now have koreader on both hooked up to booklore running on my server. Was all worth the wait.

Did the rename thing so hopefully neither will update any further.

Might be worth checking the html files in assets you copied back to make sure the html was replaced. I've had bat files not run correctly due to weird permissions before.
