How about adding ADB? It's not just for Android.

I use Calibre, so not something I'd need.

I get the occasional reboot or lockup. I do patch, and use Nicklemenu.

Also, there are a lot of reports of problems related to "database corruption".

1) My Libra2 (the one I mostly use) occasionally just becomes unresponsive (while reading) and needs to be restarted. Since I continue reading the same book, I don't think this is a code error.

2) Reboots due to USER failing to update the TOC (use KU) after fixing a 'discovered' issue and sending the cleaned book to the Kobo (both models. Not as a new book). In these cases, it is always transitioning from one chapter to the next. Updating the TOC using KU cures this.

3) The very very rare 'what the just happened' reboot. No clue what or why. Not repeatable (same book)
The only times I see these randoms is coming out of a sleep or during a page turn.

Considering that the next generation of Kobo's firmware for Kobo branded devices is likely to follow the path already taken by their firmware for tolino branded devices and use their renderer for both kepub and non-DRMmed ePubs with RMSDK being reserved for DRMmed ePubs, I'm not all that certain that Kobo would consider spending money for upgrading RMSDK to be a good investment.

For the average user, what would be the value in adding ADB?

It would allow an easy way to sync directories from desktop to ereader.
You could sync your phone the same way.

Sirtel was just complaining about syncing sideloads.

For advanced users it could give you a shell too.

I meant syncing the reading progress over wifi, not directories from a computer.

I have no idea the version RMSDK used by Kobo. I think it may be some version equivalent to ADE 3.x. RMSDK is at at least 11.x.

Do you know if the software on a Tolino for handling ePub3 is better then what's on a Kobo?

I see that you list Tolino amongst your devices. Are you able to elaborate on any differences between the 2 current Kobo renderers and the Tolino one?

If you mean the Kobo renderer? It has always been better at rendering ePub3 than RMSDK even the latest ADE/RMSDK. As for the renderer used on tolino ereaders? I haven't had the chance to play with the new tolinos so can't say.

For multiple Kobos, this can be done with Calibre-Web or Komga. Doesn't work with the Kobo apps though.

Yes, I know. For myself, I can find my place manually fast enough. Lots of people want an easy and automatic way like Send to Kindle, though. Anything they'd have to set up and configure themselves, like Calibre-Web, would be far too bothersome for most of them.

Before making more use of KOReader's Progress Sync feature, my default was to look for a less frequent word on the relevant page, then do a search for that word when opening the book on another device
