Having moved from a Kindle PW (not sure what generation, but boy did I have to supress updates/customise anything to keep it working the way that I wanted) I am really pleased with my new Kobo!

Device: Kindle Scribe but also Kobo Clara Colo(u)r...
|
Having recently bought a Clara Colo(u)r so I can carry a pocket-able ereader on my commute I have to say I'm quite happy with it. I have used mono Kindles for some while, and a Sony reader before that and whilst the B&W resolution on the Clara isn't as good as my Kindle Scribe it is perfectly fine for the purpose I intended it for. The colours are not particularly saturated but fine for what they are.
I like mine. |

I love my Kobo Clara BW. It is small and i can take it with me anywhere I go. My only issue is that i have Kindle books that were freed from DRM and I do highlight and write notes in them but those things will stay on the Clara BW. They will not be added to Kindle syncing. I find I go to my Boox Page and copy by hand the same notes I added to the Clara. Wish there was a way to sync them out of the Clara. I could just read and anotate on the Boox Page but the Clara is convenient.
Secondly, I charge my devices daily that way there never run out of charge. I know every one is different but i do not understand why not charge you e readers everyday? You can do it as you sleep. Just asking. |

OTOH, the battery in the Clara BW will probably last longer than the device even with daily charging. |

I charge all my batteries (phones included) only when they drop to 10-20% or lower, unless I have to go out and take the device with me. Which isn't often - I'm not a particularly mobile or social type. |

I charge my reader about every 2 weeks; when it gets down to ~30%. I would prefer not to plug it in every night unless I had to. |

Yes, I love my KC but I also love my Colorsoft. The buttons are a major plus but the new firmware for the Colorsoft now provides tap to turn a page which works pretty well. I do enjoy both devices.

Sorry, no. I don't like the 'murkiness' of my Kobo Libra Color's screen.
Fortunately, I have a host of other ebook readers, so I can occasionally - and nostalgically - take it out of the drawer and remember how much I paid for it, in addition to having purchased the official Kobo cover and the official clear back. To the OP's question in his last paragraph: [B]Do I find the "color screen an enhancement or just a marketing novelty?", I would have to say neither of your two options are satisfactory for me. I DO think it (and Amazon's ereader) represent the beginning of color and, for some individuals, they may be satisfied at this stage of the technology. I thought it would be for me, but unfortunately I was wrong. Last edited by Dr. Drib; 04-03-2025 at 09:05 AM. |

It's good enough for business documents, and good for some pictures, but not good for most pictures. I'm very happy with the color for reading books, but I want something better I can hang on my wall. ![]() I'm excited to see the brighter future of color e-paper. (Pun intended I think.) Unfortunately the KLC is the first ereader from Kobo that I haven't wanted to buy - and I say unfortunately because the Kobo Libra 2 is my favourite ereader ever and I would have very gladly updated, but text sharpness is a deal-breaker for me. I read at very small font sizes and with my face pretty close to the screen (I'm near-sighted and often read without glasses), so when the text is grainy it's very noticeable to me. This is a pretty niche thing though so I'm not surprised it's been so successful otherwise.
I kind of wish Kobo would release a new Libra BW with the newest firmware (love the look of that as well, with the Rakuten Serif font) but I'm pretty sure it won't happen by now, so... |

I just thought I'd share the least problematic way of adding books to the Kobo Libra Color that I have discovered so far.
I'm sure that other more knowledgeable people than I might have different ideas, but this is the process that seems to create the least problems: 1. I use EPUB exclusively. 2. Edit metadata etc in Caliber before connecting your Kobo. Note. If you connect it prematurely, the unedited book is likely to be automatically added to Kobo before you are ready, creating two copies. 3. If you are adding several books at once, check that Caliber has FN/LN around the right way for all of them. I clear all tags, then add the author's name as a tag. Then I create a shelf, also named after the author. This way they become part of the one collection when they arrive in Kobo. 3. I also find that adding too many books at once can cause problems, so I have limited it to 200. 4. Once you're happy with the book connect to Kobo, wait for it to be recognized, then highlight the book or books and click send to device. 5. When Caliber indicates that the job is finished, eject Kobo. 6. After a few seconds Kobo will indicate that it is importing books. 7. You're not finished yet. Power off the Kobo, wait a few seconds then turn it back on. 8. That's it. |

I've never powered off any of my Kobos in 6 years of use. No issues with loading books.

And as far as #2, I'm not sure books are automagically sent to the Kobo from calibre; maybe metadata is updated automatically, but I don't think books are sent. Maybe it is a setting. |

No books are sent automatically, unless you specifically set it up that way (e.g. using the Reading List plugin).
