Nook has turned off or changed hyphenation in their more recent firmware. I see slightly wider word gaps than I used to, but nothing as bad as what I see on kepub without hyphenation. I attached an image.

That tells me that all things being equal, RMSDK/ePub is just better at page layout than Access/kepub.

Having said that, I do wish Nook would bring hyphenation back.

Of course. But for me kepub is only good on 8'' or larger. YMMV.

The widest margin on the PocketBook is about the same as narrowest margin on the Kindle — if not a little narrower. (See the attached screengrabs.) I like the Nook's margins better than the Kindles, but the widest one is kind of ridiculous.

Me too. I still have them on the Nook Glowlight 3 I didn't upgrade and I like hyphenation better than not having it.

On your screenshots, I thought at first you were reading Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.

I did snicker at the granularity of breaking down time left to read to seconds. That's just... silly.

Just in case: I'm not anti-Nook. I've always liked Nook devices, but they lost me when they locked down their bookstore. And now it's too late to go back; I'm heavily invested in other directions.

I read quite a bit faster than the speed predicted. But I don't read on it often enough for it to accurately calculate my reading speed I guess.

For what it's worth, the Nook store is as de-DRMable as Kobo and more than Amazon is now.

But I've mainly moved from Amazon to Kobo. I did buy from B&N when that $20 gift card came along.

I've never read this book. Not sure even why I have it or where I got it. I think it was free or on sale. When I saw the NIMH title, the cartoon was the first thing I thought of.

That's what I meant by "too late to go back". I'll use my $20 gc of course, but I've built my libraries elsewhere.

Reading the book made me dislike the cartoon.

I'm not one that minds changes made when adapting a book. Even huge changes like what Kubrick did with The Shining.

But the magic that appears out of nowhere in The Secret of NIMH goes against everything else in the story. Even as a kid seeing the movie in the theater (when I hadn't read the book) I remembered thinking the magic amulet was stupid. Luckily, I stopped myself before I started shouting "He didn't get out of the COCKADOODIE CAR!"

I bought 100+ Nook books before moving to Amazon where I bought 3,500 books. Neither of those large numbers stopped me from moving to Kobo. My library ultimately is in Calibre.

But different strokes for different folks.

RMSDK is able to adjust spaces. Access is either not able to adjust spaces as well.

I do like the narrow margin setting. Does Pocketbook have a line-height setting?

Back in the day, my library was, too. Hence abandoning B&N where I had a similarly-sized library and buying from Kobo and Amazon. But I've converted to direct download and as I have devices that let me access my large libraries at Kobo and Amazon, that's it for me. B&N lost me over the inability to download their books and they lost me for good. I was sorry about that, because I always liked their devices and I'd like to throw my business toward an entity which has a physical presence. But there it is.

Yes it does. Three settings. The screenshots I posted above were in the middle line setting. Attached are the three line space settings (using the middle and the narrowest margin settings).

I should mention these are taken from the Basic Lux 3 (212 ppi). I don't know if Touch Lux 3 (300 ppi) would look different or not. Also should mention that you can't change a book from justified to unjustified or vice versa. You can turn hyphenation on or off. The font size in these samples is "12 point."
