How did you plan to give people access to calibre-web on your Pi? Portforwarding (setup in you modem/router) is the only way that is not either unsafe or complicated. |

Friends would be given the IP Adress (which for now is 192.xxx.xxx.xx:8083) via login. I created some guest accounts at calibre-web with different user-names and respective different passwords created by dashlane. Their rights are restricted to use the library by reading and downloading The setup in the router (fritzbox 7390) has to wait for tomorrow I look forward to install syncthing as I have to synchronize the calibre-library from the desktop computer to stick2 and at the raspberry from stick2 to the library "books" |

I’m sorry, but I have to tell you that this is not going to work. 192.168.xxx.xxx is an internal local area network (your home network) address. It can not directly be reached from outside your network by your friends, or by me, even if I knew what the x’es are. You have to give them you external network address and tell you modem/router to forward any network activity to your pi. Therefore you need portforwarding. Login to your modem/router and search in the menu’s for portforwarding. Read the manual of the fritzbbox. |

thanks, I already thought that this will not work - I thik, I tried this in the past (some years ago) and had to learn that it is impossible. I just synchronized my folders with new material (that works with the double commander (no necessity for additional programs) For the external network address etc I will read the manuals and look forward in the net how to solve this "prob" Of course, I will keep you informed, thanks for that again |

You need to do it from inside your home network, so either from your PC or from the Pi. - fill in a name (for example: huber.freemyip.com) - claim it! Domain was added. - then copy and save the url https://freemyip.com/update?token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx&domain=huber .freemyip.com You need this when either your WAN IP changes of after a year. So it's good practice to use it regularly (once a day/week/month) to update the status of your domain. - then read the next page (or stop reading after a few lines) Now huber.freemyip.com points to your home network, not just your PC or Pi. Therefore you need portforwarding in your fritz!box to acces your Pi inside your home network. |

I would say it needs to be the other way round (80 extern and 8083 intern) but just test it. No need for IPv6. just use IPv4 only. |

Ok problem 1 solved. What do you mean by "calibre-web (from the PI) does not show any infos ref" ? What if you try from the Pi with localhost:8083? |

calibre-web at xxxxx.freemyip.com does not offers those 6 infos mentioned above Cannot enter localhost:8083 from the PI - on my desktop PC I first have to run the calibreweb.exe which runs in the background - then i can enter the localhost address PS.: Ah, on PI I have to login at localhost with admin rights as well and all categories show their respective content Last edited by huber70; 02-24-2023 at 11:41 AM. |

You can also login on your Pi with calibre-web from your desktop browser with - http://192.168.178.50:8083 - http://xxxxx.freemyip.com In calibre web you need to setup users with permissions what to see and do, but that's up to you now ;-) |

Crazy: as I could see all calibre-web categories entries at xxxxx.freemip.com at the website from the PI but not at my dektop PC I found out that I blocked pages by Adblocker ![]() Now it works perfect (slow, but perfect) As already mentioned I setup users with restricted permissions and login-data Tahnks again for your comprhensive help - is there something I can offer you for a coffee-break? Via PayPAL? |
