Came to say as much. But it’s also Jon, so most regulars know to take his diagnosis with a grain of salt. We’d have seen some more reports if this was directly tied to nickleseries.

I never said NickelSeries is at fault for downloading previews from the Kobo Store. But if NickelSeries does not work with a newer firmware, then NickelSeries needs to be updated to work with the newer firmware. Kobo does not make firmware updates with third-party add-ons in mind.

To set a few things straight here:
- I'm not sure why it would be downloading previews like that, but it's unlikely to be NickelSeries unless the series ID field is screwing with sync somehow. However, I do think we'd be hearing more about it if this was the case (and we'd also be hearing about it from Calibre users).
- NickelSeries does likely have compatibility issues with 4.35 since I've had multiple reports of crashes while importing books. I haven't had a chance to look into it yet, but it is safe to uninstall it temporarily.
- It's also not out of the question that 4.35 has bugs too, which NickelSeries just makes more likely to happen for one reason or another. Remember that Kobo did pull this release shortly after.
- I'd like to hear from anyone with/without NickelSeries working.

I've been using 4.35 since it was released. I am using SideloadedMode=true and have not experienced any trouble at all. In fact I've been looking for trouble as I am a bit hesitant to be using a release that Kobo has pulled.

However as it really isn't that big of a deal for me if I had to do a factory reset and reinstall 4.34 I'm not too worried. For now I'm sticking with 4.35 but if anyone demonstrates that there is something I need to be concerned about with this release I'll roll back to 4.34.

Thank you! For the record, I did import one book (no series, but it did have a subtitle), and I didn't notice anything amiss with NickelSeries. It certainly didn't crash, but I don't remember if the metadata was transferred correctly.

Since nobody else is reporting similar issues, and since I'm still having problems after downgrading, I'm inclined to think that my preview problem is some kind of account weirdness rather than directly due to a bug in the 4.35 firmware (let alone NickelSeries).

Works fine for me. I imported a number of books (part of two different series) and saw no issues. No crashes and the series imported correctly.

Can you take your Kobo out of sideload mode and use it normally to test it?

I do wonder why Kobo pulled 4.35.

Yes indeed I'd love to know. I've gone back to 4.34. just in case (I'm not sure of what)

Will give it a shot for a day or so. Keep in mind I sideload all of my books and will only be using WIFI to do the setup after a factory reset. I may not be typical of most users.

I haven't experienced anything out of the ordinary with this firmware so far.
I'm puzzled what's Kobo's reason for pulling it.

Considering how reluctant Kobo has been in the past to pull updates with widespread complaints of problems and mayhem on this forum, I speculate, (with absolutely no facts,) that the reason probably wasn't technical issues. The first thing that pops to my mind is something like licensing issues with the new fonts. Nothing gets through corporate bureaucracy quite like lawyers.

They added a cluster of new languages all at once. Sounds tricky.

I don't sync. I keep WiFi off. I side load. So I think your usage is not odd.

Kobo pulls 4.35 yet leaves 4.31 which is known to sometimes corrupt the database, freeze, and reboot. Very odd indeed.

My thinking is maybe 4.35 wasn't supposed to have been released because it's still beta.
