This is true for the inhalation, but not for exhalation, which is directed and relatively forceful. That's why you can put out a birthday candle by blowing, but not by inhaling. Getting a proper fit isn't too difficult.

LOL, you need to get a physics book and read it. Also, there seem to be a lot of us here who would argue that your "easy to get a good fit" part is not true for everyone.

It doesn't matter if we are discussing pneumatic pressure or fluid pressure, both will take the path of least resistance. If you have no mask on, then expect the path to be outwards from your face. If you have a mask on that can block or impede the flow, then expect the path to be toward the areas of the mask which have the least resistance to the flow. In other words, the path will tend to be around the edges of the mask that seal the least and thus have the least resistance to the flow. Even that video you posted clearly shows flow up to the eyes. The better the mask, the less flow through the mask material and the more flow near the edges of the mask where it doesn't seal well. A crappy mask is another story, of course, but even with a crappy mask there will be flow around the edges.

My octogenarian Dad was unsteady on his feet for a day or so after his first Pfizer shot (as the vaccination team had warned was possible), but was positively bragging about having no side effects at all from his second. I'm finally getting my first Pfizer next week, it will be interesting to see how my reaction stacks up with my Dad's

I can only easily speak for my region (Will and Kankakee Counties) in Illinois with regards to positivity rate, and it's about doubled from a low of 0.9% to 1.6%.
That said, the statewide numbers with regards to cases and hospitalizations are teetering on the edge of needing to go back to the "bridge phase" unless Pritzker changes the rules again, as he has done several times.

My guess is he'll break the state back into multiple regions with regards to the reopening metrics since it seems that the surge in cases and hospitalizations seems to mostly be downstate.

Well, the covid political tapdance continues in NC. Almost 1500 new cases in one day, 8% positivity rate in testing, etc. -- the worst numbers seen since pre-vaccine times.

And the government response? All state covid safety mandates will be allowed to expire at the end of the month. All public responses now will rely on the honor system.

And re-opening schools? An NC Toolkit of 'suggestions' - which states schools "should" take "appropriate" measures for student safety.

It appears NC, like many other states, is willing to endure the post 4th of July surge, and then the post Labor Day surge, and then the post Halloween surge, etc. .... with more needless deaths and unceasing toll upon hospital staff.

One interesting personal observation, probably driven by news of the delta variant. Over the past month, I have been the only masked customer at the local liquor store -- where I had observed the earliest appearance of non-masked customers. Today? All customers were masked: redneck, old, young, black, white. In spite of 95 F & > 90% humidity levels.

Covid is here to stay. What would you recommend? Masks and social isolation forever?

The only way out of this mess is to vaccinate. Should vaccination be made mandatory? I don't know. There would be an awful hullabaloo in that case, I'm afraid.

Oh, I fully agree with you - covid is here to stay. And vaccination is the only permanent solution.

Essentially the governor told parents to get vaccinated now since their <12 kids aren't eligible yet, and are going back to school next month to mix in person with other kids and adults.

No A/C in NC?

Other than that, it is about the same in the Lidl grocery store I go to once a week. Two weeks ago, most customers were unmasked. Now few if any are, even though the store has not put back the sign telling you to mask.

Most folk around here are not mask wearing in the street, but they put them on when entering a shop/store. As do I. Seems sensible, and many shops have a notice in the entrance now,that asks customers to wear masks.

I went to a shopping mall yesterday. Not a single mask to be seen.
