I can improve it using the patches and hyphen dictionary. But why doesn't Kobo put some effort into making their own format look better than ePub? |

I've never cared about formatting much. As a matter of fact, I don't even notice it usually. Whatever comes by default in most books is perfectly fine with me. I did have one book once that had a font I didn't like, or maybe it was too small. And I couldn't change that using the normal controls on my Kindle. I thought, "What the heck?" I did some research and found that was some setting the publisher could make. I learned how to override/disable that in Calibre after a bit of research on the web. So I fixed that book and re-sent it to my Kindle. But other than that on instance, I can't say I've ever noticed a problem in formatting that I couldn't change to my liking using just the controls on the Kindle itself. I guess I'm not as picky as others (I'm not as hard core reader as most here are, I'm more the slow, recreational reader type).

I made the switch earlier this year, and haven't looked back.I read in KOReader, and I think there was one book recently that was stuck justified, enough to remind me why I switched to RR

I don't pay the slightest attention to typesetting. All I care about is that the text is large enough for me to read. |

It's the epub reader on a Kobo. Kobos have two reading applications, one for kepubs and one for epubs. If you sideload an epub to a Kobo, you'll get the Adobe RMDSK, if you sideload a kepub or download one directly from the Kobo store, you'll get the kepub reader.

May I ask why you prefer KOReader? I tried it, but didn't feel it was that much better than the native readers (other than customization options, of course - which I don't need, as Calibre and patches give me all the customization I want).

We don't need to dump RMSDK. We need to dump Access and install the latest RMSDK. Then we'd have the better typesetting along with ePub 3. That would do no problem.

If RMSDK was dumped, we'd lose the ability to borrow most eBooks from Overdrive. The problem is that the version of RMSDK used by Kobo is not the latest version. Kobo is not using the latest version (I think) because if they did, then there would be no need to Access (KePub) as the latest RMSDK does support ePub 3. |
