Also feel free to point out by quotation which exact portions of my last few posts on the object were political or religious in nature--which parts were right vs left ideology. I'll wait. Last edited by DiapDealer; 03-24-2020 at 04:09 PM. |

I went to hospital today and had my cast removed at the fracture clinic. The notable aspect was how few other patients there were; there appeared to be a normal quota of nurses/consultants, just fewer people waiting to be seen.
Another thing I noticed was that I didn't see one pedestrian in the street (I travelled by taxi) and most of the shops were closed. Plenty of cars, but no people. I kept the cast because it acts as a shield when I syringe feed my ferocious poorly cat! |

My comments were a "broad brush" and not aimed at any one post. Abortion is an inherently emotional, religious, political discussion.
How current laws are being interpreted and enforced is certainly up for discussion. But the abortions taking place as a convenience and not because of a medical issue for the life of the mother are going to bring emotional responses from those who are pro-life. We don't think baby's lives should be ended because those babies are inconvenient. We think their lives matter, and that prevention of unwanted pregnancies should be the goal by people on any side of this issue. This Coronavirus has everyone on edge. My 31 year old daughter had a call from her doctor telling her she is high risk, and she should not be working at her delivery job. My daughter can't afford to not work. I know many here on these forums have medical issues, family with medical issues, and huge concerns about the issue. I pretty much avoid political and religious conversations here and online elsewhere. I've seen these forums as a great place to learn and not be confronted with these topics because I don't go to the private area here where these discussions take place. I was voicing my opinion, and my observation that those who give voice to right-leaning pro-life views are given short shift on many forums. And knowing those topics aren't discussed here is one reason I like these forums. When people with Mod abilities seem to be given a different set of guidelines, it's frustrating. |

So let me get this straight: your response to my request to point out where I'd crossed any political lines was to post the most political and religiously slanted response imagineable? Perhaps instead of requesting others not talk about things that make you uncomfortable, you should learn how to speak about it in a non-ideological way yourself.
I'm pointing out the logical ridiculousness of someone in power stating that going out to buy dog-treats is an "essential" need (and thus exempt from the lockdown rules in place) but that a legal medical procedure is not. I'm talking about pure hypocrisy, not religious or political ideals. You're doing that all by your big self. Last edited by DiapDealer; 03-24-2020 at 05:00 PM. |

An abortion is not a “convenience.” Not by any reasonable rhetoric. It’s a legal medical procedure. For the rest, I’ll refer you to DiapDealer’s excellent response.

So, it seems like Illinois has reached the point where the second derivative is negative, perhaps.
(For those who never took calculus, first derivative is the rate of change, second derivative is the rate of change of the rate of change) Last edited by binaryhermit; 03-24-2020 at 07:27 PM. Reason: I'm an idiot who can't spell "second" |

I was afraid the mere mention of an elected official would take us down this road

And in my opinion, no one should fear the mere mention of an elected official. Acknowledging that politicians and governments and religions exist should never be construed as political or religious commentary. Again: in my opinion.

Oh, for God sake people, please.
Why is it that people seem to think that their personal political belief is not political, while other people's personal political belief is. Abortion is one of the big political issues of the day in the US, both pro and con. It's pretty much guaranteed to get people riled up. Please, I beg of you, I started this thread for people to discuss how the lock down was effecting them and maybe feel a little online support and closeness. Let's not start World War III, no matter how you feel about abortion or any other topic that is tied to politics, at least not in this thread. Please. |

Our library system sent out an email when they announced their closing a little over a week ago (I think - time passes strangely these days), and said that they would be expanding their digital services. They've increased monthly Hoopla credits to 15, and today I dug in and discovered that Hoopla has about half of the stuff on my Comixology wishlist. Yay!
My Mom in Florida is finally taking things seriously. She's still working (seafood shop, all carry-out) but they're taking extensive precautions and utilizing PPE. Not ideal but I can't really tell her what to do, and she's stopped all other outings except essential shopping. I finally canceled my fight and van ride reservations for my planned trip to see her for her birthday at the end of next month. I knew well over a week ago that the trip wasn't going to happen but I guess a part of me wanted to hang on to some optimism about it a bit longer so I waited until the other day to actually cancel. On the surface, my day to day life doesn't look much different, but underneath, there's a whole new level of anxiety and uncertainty. On the upside, I'm finding humor in things I never paid much attention to before. There's a Geico commercial with a guy getting fitted for a suit who is pretending to be on a motorcycle and singing "Wild Thing". For some reason, it just tickles me so much that I nearly fall out of my chair laughing when it comes on. ![]() |

We have new restrictions in place since today. Moving around in groups is forbidden, except for families (I guess that was done because schools are online-only now and bored teenagers tended to hang out in big groups). Stores are closed, except for grocery stores and pharmacies. Restaurants and cafes are closed as well, except for home deliveries. Bank offices are open, though most banking can be done online anyway.

Here all non-essential industrial and commercial production activities are suspended.
It is forbidden to everyone to move to a different municipality from the one in which they are currently located, except to prove working needs, of absolute urgency or for health reasons; it is no longer allowed to return to one's home, or residence. Stay were You are! They are doing this to prevent people from returning to the south of the country (with the closure of production activities they could do that) where the epidemic affects fewer people for now. I exit home only to buy food, I work from home and Yesterday I sent a photo of a cup of coffee to my colleagues at the time we usually had a 5-minute coffee break. ![]() I read a lot. Without ebooks I would have already gone crazy. |
