Glad to see you got your problem sorted and patches working.
For future reference, it's generally a good idea to use an editor like Notepad++ (a free download) rather than "notepad" that comes with Windows if you need to mess with any config files or most text files. The technical reason is that it treats end-of-line properly and windows notepad can mess with that/cause the file to not work properly after editing with it.

I'm just curious as to how someone can use all the patches given that some of them are mutually exclusive.

All of them. Because you can't.

One could argue that 'all' means all the types of patches. I believe the mutually exclusive ones tend to modify the same thing. The homescreen patch group is a great example of this with three patches two of which modify two different things and the third which modifies both.

I'm not sure if you missed it or not, but Jon brought this topic up a bit earlier in the thread. It was fairly soundly put down with 'this was meant for fun not a scientific paper' being the gist of it.

Now you've confused me. The notepad onboard my computer says it is Notepad++. The computer runs Windows 10. Shouldn't it be the same?

Anyway, I think it always takes me a couple of tries till I get these kind of things working. Whenever I try to change anything on my Kobos, I need a bunch of tries, some help and someone to calm me down when I get frustrated. Might have something to do with not doing it very often, more like every two or three years and being afraid to ruin the whole reader altogether. And then, when it works it is like I made that new reader my own and I like it a lot better.

Computers are complicated. And so am I Or maybe I'm just daft

To clarify: yes, some options are perhaps badly phrased. But demanding the whole thread be deleted and started again, as Jon did, was really too much at that point. There were almost hundred answers. If the issue had been brought up in the beginning, the poll could have been modified.

If you use 5 patches, which do you select the first or second answer?

If you use 10 patches, do you select the second or third answer?

If you use 15 patches, do you select the third or fourth answer?

If you use all possible patches )minus the ones that are either this one or that one) do you select the fifth or sixth answer?

So how inaccurate is th e poll based on the repeated answers?

I would not say daft. I would say inexperienced with the new patching system. This was the first time I've used the new patching system and I had to learn a few things.

You can select whichever answer you want. Why does it matter? I don't plan to write a paper based on this poll.

Because if you are going to do a poll (no matter how informal), you want it to be accurate.

This is slightly incorrect. Kobopatch doesn't care which line endings you use, but it does care about tabs/spaces. IIRC Notepad++ will autodetect spaces and put them instead of tabs. Notepad will just insert tabs. So, you don't need notepad++ as long as you remember to type spaces for indentation. And, note that win10 notepad now supports unix line breaks. But, even with all this, notepad++ or another editor is a better option if just for the syntax highlighting.
