Leave the KFX for now, just add the one downloaded in browser. They should go together into the same book. Then just delete all KFX versions.

To avoid KFX, I download using an older version of Kindle for PC (I'm assuming you are using Windows). I'm using version 1.17, which is available here. (Look at the list on the right.) With that version you can download books and they won't be KFX.

You will need to go into Tools/Options and uncheck 'Automatically install updates when they are available without asking me.'

Setting this up the first time might seem daunting, but you'll get it. You'll be glad you did when you are reading B&N books on your Kindle and Amazon books on your Nook.

And you can (if you wish) make Omnibus editions of books in a series using Calibre as well. The books have to be epub to be joined together but then you can convert them to whatever format you want. Whether or not it's worth it depends at least in part on how big the omnibus book file is. They can get pretty good size in kindle at times.

Oddly enough, I use it for making individual books from omnibus editions. (Using the EpubSplit plugin.)

Oooh, I need this. I've been reading an ebook that actually contains several novels, and I find it unpleasant - I'd much rather read individual ebooks.

Seconded. It’s invaluable when you have a couple of standalones merged into an omnibus - some of C J Cherryh’s SF has had that done to them.

Cybooks. Back then, supported only folders.
And as said, it simple, it's interoperable.

The T1, or the kobo, I just put the few books i'm currently reading,as the lack of folders makes it a pain to find anything.

Cybooks, I copy past the whole folder, and voila, done. No extra work needed, no extra software needed.

On the Kobo, you can create a folder structure. As long as the folder names don't start with a '.', the software doesn't care. So copy/paste your folder structure, just don't expect the ereader to show the structure unless you are using KOReader.

I hate omnibuses because you can't mark parts of it as being read.

The only reason why I haven't split up my Delphi Classics is because they get updated once in a while... and they started with the (more expensive...) Parts Editions after I already bought everything I wanted.

First of all, thank you kcladyz for starting this very timely thread. I won't say I understood half of what's in it but enough to solve a problem I ran into today. Adobe Editions crashed over and over while I was trying to transfer a book to an older ereader. So I tried authorizing a newer one, a Kobo Aura edition 2 and found I had reached my device limit. I won't tell you how much time I wasted today on Adobe forums. But now I have the book on the Kobo along with a number of books I purchased on googleplay. I'm very happy even if this is all I learn to do on Cailibre.
