Nothing's been banned. You just have to put some items in checked luggage. I'm not happy about it, but I trust that it's been done for a good reason. It's my preference to be inconvenienced rather than dead.

I don't use my laptop during a flight. So going in the hold would not be too much of a bother. But, what would be a bother is if my phone, music player, and Reader aren't allowed in the cabin.
