Kobo seems to always have updates for all touch screen readers. Maybe not pre touch touch screen readers.

Battery has been exceptional since the update. I lose about 1% per day when sleeping (not turned off).

FWIW I checked if my earlier observations were correct, they are. Right under my eyes, battery went from 70% to 69%, and a second later displayed 59%.

So might be rather disastrous software implementation after all.

Factory reset.
Update to 4.1.7729 without doing anything else with the device.
This has resolved the problems for several people including myself. Installing 4.1.7729 without a factory reset first may not remove the bad file/setting/whatever which leads to the battery drain problem.

This kind of makes sense, I've noticed that after closing the sleep cover sometimes the page had been turned or an image has even been zoomed in.

If this is indeed the cause of the battery drain then it should be solvable in software

I disabled that auto sleep thing for the sleep cover in settings and my battery life seems to be normal, didn't notice any drain so far....

Likewise... but I would like the sleep cover to work! I got used to that with my Aura HD and sorely miss on the KA1.

I suppose it's just a matter of fixing the firmware, maybe reducing the touch sensitivity of the screen eg. Pinpointing the cause is the first step in finding a solution

Battery dead in less than 8 hours.

Picked up a new Kobo Aura One from Best Buy yesterday (they had 3 hidden on a shelf with zero exposure, nobody in the store even knew they were there). The physical hardware is by far the nicest e-reader I have used - great screen, adequate lighting (fine without any lighting on), fast enough if you are patient, PDF's are workable (once again if you are patient), and borrowing a book from the Toronto Public Library actually worked - well, more or less, as it complained with an error at the end of the process yet the book showed up anyway.

The firmware was updated to the latest greatest when the device first powered on. The battery dropped down to 50% in the first few hours; perhaps due to loading books, firmware updates, and so forth. After being charged up again, in the evening I noticed that the light stayed on even though the device was put into "Sleep" mode and the screen indicated "Sleeping". Manually shutting the light off more or less worked, but it seemed to want to come back on itself to 6-25% from time to time. By the morning the battery had drained leaving me with a dead device.

The form factor of this device - screen, size, rubbery back, weight and so forth - is so good that I'd put up with the odd problem if there was a workaround for it. However, having the battery not last more than part of a day is a non-starter; at least it hasn't hung or randomly rebooted itself yet. Having the light stuck on at night is a bit disconcerting; and suggests some fairly fundamental firmware problems are present in what presumably is a production unit with updated firmware.

Suddenly I'm very glad to have an Aura One which not only works right with the sleep cover, but which has sat a week at a time in a bag that gets jostled regularly, and only lost 6% battery life even with the WiFi on. Without it, it has gotten ten days for the same amount of battery drain in sleep mode.

Did everyone but me get an awful unit, or is it other environmental or other factors like settings causing issues?

One thing I discovered early on, when they deployed the nightly auto sync firmware, was to turn that off along with the WiFi (when not using it) immediately. That, and brightness above 5-10% eats through the battery life like a shark in a school of fish.

Thumbs down battery drain issue Kobo Aura One statistic

I want to share my statistic with you, to try to be more precise (I am italian (unlucky) and new in this forum, sorry for my english).

I Bought the kobo Aura One November 4, 2016 and after sucessfully done the update firmware 4.1.7729 two times after manual and automatic reset but still have battery issue.
  1. with everything off reading a lot but from the range 100% (fully charged) to 95% the drain go faster than under 90%:
2,5% every hour ( that is almost 5% in only 2 hours )
  2. with everything off (wifi off, sync off and light off, but reading a lot) but under 90%
1,5% per hour (I almost lose more than 10% every 7 hours)
  3. with only lights on at 5% (wifi off, sync off and light 5%, but reading a lot)
3% battery per hour with lights on at 5%.
  4. with wifi on, sync on and light 1% [EDIT] on web browsing! (BETA feature!)
    more than 10% per hour
  5. with kobo aura one powered off completely
surprise: I lose 1% every 3 hour! (is that normal?) [EDIT] Shutting down and restarting every three hours!

What you suggest me to do?

Other than the last one or two, what is the problem? Kobo rate the battery life as one month at 30 minutes of reading per day. That means 15 hours and works out at about 7% per hour. Other than the second last one, they are all better than this.

10% per hour with WiFi on is probably about right. I can't remember if Kobo figures are with or without WiFi. They are probably without, so 10% with is probably OK.

For the 1% while off, was that turn off, wait three hours and turn on again? If so, it's probably about right. Shutting down and starting any device uses a lot of power. A 1% drop is reasonable to me.
