I'm curious
If you own the new hd8 and an hd6, do you find a speed/lag difference between the two to be considerable? My girls each have an hd6 and spec wise, I wonder if the new hd8 is any faster or better.(besides screen size)

None of my items are stuck indexing. The lag was simply because I had too much on the Fire and I don't think the CPU could cope.

It's just a matter of getting them on sale and using promo credits. I purchased two Fire 6s -- a 16GB Fire 6 in Nov 2014 (Black Friday) for $49 and an 8GB Fire 6 in Jul 2015 (Prime Day) for $29.

Generally speaking, the best deals can be had during Black Friday and Prime Day. YMMV

I bought a used or refurbished 16 GB Fire HD 6. I cannot remember which it was now, used or refurbished. That is how I bought it so inexpensively. Amazon nearly always seems to have good deals on used and refurbished devices. Just click on the Used link on the product's page.

I don't like refurb tho I will buy Used IF I can see it working before I buy.

Has anyone read comics on theirs? I prefer doing full page when using Marvel Unlimited and Comixology (as compared to their smart panel thing, or scrolling), and on my 7 inch tablet, sometimes the text is just a hair bit too small. I am hoping that the bump up to 8" is enough to where I never really need to zoom in.

if you google differences between the 2016 HD8, and the previous version ( which we did while still waiting for a UK sale price)
they have upped some things, lowered others. e.g. more RAM, better battery life, alexa ready; but worse camera, slower processor...

another review has this to say about the new camera:
It’s a sad state of affairs, but this is exactly the sort of camera I’d include if I was in charge of the Amazon Fire HD 8 design. A better but still remedial camera isn’t worth adding even £10 to the price of this tablet. The cameras are here so you don't have to give the kids your phone when they want to take pictures of the dog.

I just got one. It downloads as fast or faster than my iphone. It is as responsive as the iphone. It seems designed for media rather than a general purpose, do everything device. I think the extra memory offset the "slower" processing quite nicely.

Received my HD8 last week and when I went to download MANY apps I PAID for they are no longer available! Anyone having this same problem? Really upset about paying over $30 for my Audubon apps and now no longer available. Any ideas?
