Hollow Man where can you see the Oasis in person ? I'm also in CT. Also what is an Amazon pop up store ? I only know of Best Buy & now Target that sells them but I have not seen one in person yet on display around the N.E. part of CT. Maybe the closer to NY border the better the odds of seeing one though ?

It's Amazon's sort of retail stores. Although they're likely little more than kiosks...I have yet to visit. The Westfarms Mall apparently has a pop-up store:

Thanks ! I had no idea they had them, it's not near me, I'll have to make a special trip over to Westfarms now.

Let me know what you think if you go. I may head there this weekend, but not sure I'll get there, so I said heck with it and ordered online. Stock must've been fluctuating last night. It would alternate whether you could conceivably get it tomorrow or Saturday at the earliest.

I was able to snag Friday delivery, so here's hoping! Right now it's stuck on "shipping today"...

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to get there this weekend. Hectic schedule from now until after the holidays, but now that I know that I can see an Oasis at Westfarms, I intend to make the trip at some point. I'm just curious to see one in person, to see if it's right for me.

It shipped, and since it's official UPS next day service, should be here tomorrow!

I suspect the fact that it's such a big upgrade over the Kindle Keyboard will make it hard to see any flaws right away.

That's true, I upgraded gradually PW1 to PW3, and now the Voyage. Each one was an improvement over the last.

So I've been playing with my Oasis off and on since I got it yesterday, and I went to the pop-up store this afternoon and got to mess with a Voyage. Here's some thoughts (and I'll try, probably unsuccessfully, to be succinct).

I like the Oasis. It's a no brainer that it's leaps and bounds better than the Kindle Keyboard. It's very responsive, even when flipping it to my left hand, and the light is very, very even (a ridiculous improvement over a clip-on light). I can be anal, so if I look closely I can see where the light fades a bit, but when reading, eh, who cares?

The resolution improvement overall is a big difference, and the Bookerly font is nice. I believe the main font for the Kindle Keyboard is heavier than Bookerly, so that's an interesting change. Caecillia appears a little heavier, so I may try that too and see what I think long term.

A lot of my sideloaded books are not showing the covers, so I'll have to decide if I want to fix that problem, or just keep the thing in list view and forget it. If I decide to mess with it, what are the recommended specs for cover images, which I assume I can just add to the book file via Calibre?

My wife, who has a first generation Paperwhite, doesn't like the excessive thinness, and finds where she wants to rest her hands ends up touching the screen, and then accidentally changing the pages. She's missed having physical buttons ever since moving to the PW from her Kindle 2, but doesn't seem to like the other design choices of the Oasis to consider getting one.

So we looked at the Voyage at the store, and I was surprised that the haptic buttons were rather weak (I cranked the vibration up, but it was still very light). Everything else about it was fine, but since its design is so similar to the PW, I wonder if it's worth the price increase, just to get the smooth surface (i.e. no bezel), the auto light adjustment, and some extra LEDs.

Back to my Oasis: for one book I already had to use ";ReadingTimeReset" because it was incorrect. Also, I noticed for David Copperfield that the page numbers do not show on my Oasis. They do on my Kindle Keyboard (and the Amazon page confirms they're included) so any suggestions on to fix that for my Oasis would be welcome:

It took me a while to get used to the sensor buttons too on the Voyage. The screen differences vary a little from my PW3 & Voyage, I like reading on both. The voyage to me seems more like a tablet. I got them both on sale this year. One stays home the other travels with me.

I noticed not seeing covers from side loaded books as well. Also have noticed not seeing page numbers, I did find them once but can't remember where they where. I'm sure someone on the forum can help.

The option to see page numbers works for other Amazon books, just not for the one I mentioned (even though it is included for the title). It simply doesn't cycle to it in the lower left, nor can I choose to go to a page number (the option is greyed out, only go to location works).

That is strange , that it won't go to page numbers. Maybe it's something to with that books formatting ?

If you want Amazon page numbers, I don't have a solution. I use Calibre-generated page numbers (via the Page Count plugin) with all my books and those always show.

There appears to be a problem with the KFX format version of that particular book. I borrowed it from Kindle Unlimited and sent it to my PW2 and also to Kindle for Android and it did not show page numbers on either of those.

Thanks for trying! I wonder if something changed with the title since I downloaded it to my Kindle Keyboard, and that's why current copies aren't working right.

There's a few copies of it for free on Amazon...it's just a question of finding one that's formatted well and is, hopefully, free...
